Oscar Peterson Plays “Tenderly”

Track:

One of the best ways that anyone can conceived for sending everyone off onto a weekend full of sunshine and joy is to listen to the ever swinging Oscar Peterson with his sweeping, free and easy style at the keyboard. Although Peterson was well-known to the Canadians since the late 1940's, his debut at Carnegie Hall in 1953 reveals so much about the man and his way with time honored classics. One such performance is "Tenderly," written in 1947 by lyricist Jack Lawrence and composer/pianist Walter Gross. The inventiveness of Peterson is heard here in all his glory, proving to even the most jaded of all jazz fans that here is a man of rare genius.

OMG - wow, I went to Carnegie Hall for the first time this year and was amazed by the acoustics throughout the building. It's a beautiful venue. This is wonderful listening to Oscar play in the venue I always wanted to visit which I have now TWICE!! :D
My father LOVES Oscar Peterson so I grew up listening to his work. I think my father's friend played him but I am not to sure - Bob Cranshaw? He plays bass. I have to check.
Thank you for making me smile as I look at the rain outside my window : X
SerenityLife,
Boy do I know the people on this site! It is so neat to hear of somebody who has been to Carnegie Hall where so many of my heroes have played.
My friend is the voice you hear at the beginning and at the end of the posts. He is so cool! Now as for Bob Cranshaw, I will look his name up as the name is very familiar to me. Again, it is a thrill to know of someone who knows my heroes!
Now I do hope this makes you smile even bigger than usual and that my note chaes those clouds away!
Yours very truly,
musikfriend
Here, I am with my Mom and our family friend, Luvenia George, who spoke at an event during the Jessye Norman Honor's festival at Carneige Hall. This picture was taken outside of Carneige Hall.

At that event I had the opportunity to meet Jessye Norman. I almost fainted. She took my mother's hand and touched it to her face for my mother gave Ms. Norman 4 Duke Ellington. Quarters that were released by the U.S. Mint but they stopped making them!!

Enough of my blabs. Thanks for listening : D
Dear SrenityLife,
I honestly don't mind your blabs one bit! You sure made my day with this one! Love the Jessye Norman story as well. She is one of the nicest people in music. Period. And I am double impressed by Luvenia George and her accomplishments in music education. Believe me, this a great occasion for me to read your blabs. Keep blabbing, I enjoy it tremendously!
A friend of mine sent me cassette tapes of everything he had on Duke Ellington. Talk about an educational experience! And I did a Google search on Bob Cranshaw which totally blew me away. The guy played bass with every big name in jazz. The You Tube videos are really fabulous although the majority are with Sonny Rollins. Now who loves to blab? Thank you for getting me started blabbing! This has been a great experience hearing and writing!
Yours very truly,
musikfriend
@musikfriend ditto! Bob Cranshaw is the reason why I live where I live in New York. My father and Bob Cranshaw grew up together. It is a very small world. Bob promised to take me to visit the Sesame Street set but I have not gone yet. I need to get on my knees and BEG!! He used to play for Sesame Street!!

Sweet tribute to him! I should call him today and let him know I'm actually yapping about him online. ROFLMAO - I'm going to be in trouble! It's all good. I have not even blogged about him and that is really wrong of me. I need meds!
Thank you! xoox

Dear SerenityLife,
You are not going to believe this but the video which is in your link was the very one I looked at last night! Great minds think alike, you know! It's great you yapped online about this guy, he's one of those unassuming masters that nevertheless leave their mark on the world. By the by, hope you get to see Sesame Street! You are one neat person! Hope you get a photo with Big Bird--two happy faces. Now that would be beautiful! See yah! :D
