This song was originally written by Christian comedian Mark Lowry shortly before he joined the Gaither Vocal Band in 1984. He had been working on a script for a play in which he wrote questions he had always wanted to ask the Virgin Mary. Six years later, Buddy Greene wrote the lyrics and the song became literally an overnight sensation. More than 30 artists have recorded this song, from Kenny Rogers and Wynnona Judd to Natalie Cole. This version by Vikki Carr is the best of all. She brings her entire soul into this song and the performance is the best that this song could ever have in its entire history.
