More Than You Know - (with Marty Paich Dek-tette)
Many people remember Mel Torme for his numerous appearances on "Night Court" as the object of Harry Anderson's obssession. Others may remember him as a singer extraordinaire. But he was really a Renaissance man for he was a true professional musician: composer ("The Christmas Song"), arranger, drummer, pianist in addition to being the smoothest of singers with his foggy voice of remarkable agility. Torme made his first recordings with arranger/composer Marty Paich in the 1950s and made occasional studio and personal appearances with Paich until the latter's death in 1993. Here we find the friendship very much in evidence on this time honored classic by Vincent Youmans "More Than You Know" complete with the opening verse. It's smooth, romantic and everything in between, Paich using a rich pallette with a small group. Almost chamber music. Both of these gentlemen collaborated on a song written possibly just for Vikki Carr called "Once." Which you will hear shortly.
