For those of you who may only know Vikki Carr from her 1970's recordings, this collection introduces us to someone who could then and can still deliver amazingly convincing performances of a wide spectrum of songs: country, jazz, current and past pop standards as well as Latin favorites. What makes this 3 cd set work is that it also has recordings which have not been available for a while as well as Vikki Carr's British recordings made at the famous Abbey Road Studios in London where The Beatles recorded. At the time of these recordings, Vikki Carr was one of the most frequent guests on all of the music variety television shows and tied if not surpassed the record of appearances on "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson," becoming the first woman to ever host the show when Johnny was away. This performance from the Persian Room at the Plaza Hotel in New York City represents just how great Vikki was and still remains to this day. This performance, from November 1968, was recorded live infront of a distinguished of listener which included Ed Sullivan. The excitement of this live show is very indicative of what Vikki could do and what she can still do. There is a deeply felt blues tinge to this performance which makes me prefer it to Frankie Valli's famous version from the same time period. This rendition also shows Vikki as the consummate artist she is, falling into the ranks of Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett.
