Although "Love for Sale" was written in 1930 by Cole Porter for his stage musical "The New Yorkers," the song itself was banned from radio for a very long time due to its risque lyrics that told about the selling of "love" for money (i.e.: prostitution). The song itself was well known to musicians and was recorded quite a lot by everyone including Ella Fitzgerald. In this treatment by Pete Myers, "Love" becomes a propulsive, hard driving swinger announced at the outset with a motivating drum solo by Buddy Rich. We have the services of Daniel Quill on alto sax playing driving imagination and flair. The band itself is playing their selves into anemia while Bobby Shew plays into the stratospheric heights with his trumpet leading the way. Jay Corre wails out on his tenor sax which leads into a coda with an unbelievably great drum break by Buddy who spurs the band into a finale of volcanic heat and passion.
