With the long title "Frank Sinatra Sings Days of Wine and Roses, Moon River And Other Academy Award Winners," Frank Sinatra entered the final phase of his recording career with Nelson Riddle. Recorded January 27 and 28, 1964, and the results were never less than perfectly refreshing. Nelson Riddle keeps the original guitar motifs (played by that master guitarist Tony Mottola) but totally takes the song into another direction, putting his own personal stamp on the arrangement with graceful muted strings that sparkle like the moonlight flitting across the waves. A French horn comes in on the instrumental break, playing the main melodic line. Frank Sinatra is at his elegant best, singing with a deeply felt and shaded performance that his sheer beauty.
