Yes, prior to the Velvet Underground, Lou Reed was a recording artist. He went by a slightly more formal name, and his musical wares were as conventional as conventional gets. I'm going to level with you. To anyone at all familiar with the Velvet Underground, or with The Velvet Underground and Nico, there is no way that my review is going to be comprehensive enough, or even good enough, to re-articulate to you why this album is one of the greatest rock-n-roll works that mankind will ever produce. Listening to music at work always reminds me of that line from high fidelity; "Which came first — the music or the misery? Here's an update on the apartment situation I was panicking about in yesterday's posts. I finally got to speak to Chris' super. It turned out things aren't as bad as I feared, they cleaned out the apartment but boxed everything.
