Girl on Girl : The Sugar Oaks : No One Can Love You Like Me : 4:01 the last two bands to have tickled my folkie fancy have been Field Music from the UK by way of Sunderland, with their sophomore album Tones of Town in early 2007, and The Sugar Oaks from the US by way of Orlando, with their debut EP Red Grapes in the City in early 2008. dissimilarly, of course. The Sugar Oaks sound dauntlessly pastoral, at once recalling prog-folk rusticity and radio-folk idyls. or, ju... MORE

Very Sparrow

Blog post image preview Long time Sugar Oaks supporters may recognize this from, I don't know - five years ago, when we were distributing Eric's elegant four-track demo of the song. The arrangement now is quite different: though it retains its impressionism, this is our most polished pop song to date. I think you'll like it.

The Sugar Oaks

The Sugar Oaks are an Orlando, Florida band who have developed over the past few years a truly singular sound. It is a warm, bittersweet sort of folk pop which draws from 70s AM golden-harmony hits, The Band, George Harrison, R&B foundations; and also from the spirit of the many musics found strewn like dusty rubies more or less along the equator. They regularly open Florida dates for artists like Of Montreal, the Hold Steady, John Vanderslice, Magnolia Electric Co., etc... MORE

NEW RELEASE: Red Grapes in the City

(30)
Blog post image preview
The Sugar Oaks, based out of Orlando, just released their first EP titled "Red Grapes in the City".
If you're from the South or south of the South (FL), you'll totally dig how the music is reminiscent of a barefoot walk down a steamy, narrow street shaded by a 100-year-old and proud oak.
At just over 20 minutes, the vibrations linger longer than the time it takes your Sno Cone to melt in Florida heat. With a $10 bill in your back pocket, there's plenty to go around for icy ... MORE
