Black Snake Diamond Role

Blog post image preview Finally got Black Snake Diamond Role by Robyn Hitchcock. It's his 1981 solo debut. I love Robyn Hitchcock. I think the guy is a genius. Every time I get an album by him I get so mentally satisfied and inspired. This one is definitely not a disappointment. My favorite song on the album is track 1 "The Man Who Invented Himself". It's crazy but I feel a strong connection to the man Robyn's singing about in this song. The album is loaded with top notch trippy pop music... MORE

Blog post image preview ..The former Soft Boys hero, has put out truck loads of quality music... it's always engaging... lyrically and musically. ..Robyn Hitchcock is a one-man Beatles. Robyn Hitchcock is a very funny man.Robyn Hitchcock is the Rene Magritte (or perhaps Picasso) of pop music.Robyn Hitchcock deserves to be heard...Here's my part to help with #4...I'm not a big fan of recorded live music, but this version of "Glass Hotel" from EYE glistens.... the guitar... the vocals... perfect...... August Hair

Artist:
Album: Selections from the 'I Wanna Go Backwards' box set
Track:

Blog post image preview Gotten pretty big into Robyn Hitchocock. I have 5-6 of his CD's and about 4 of his records, including a couple he's done with his band the Egyptians. I don't know what it is about Hitchcock--no one else really sounds like him (the Syd Barrett and Lennon comparisons notwithstanding). Some of his stuff is rather goofy in a very British way, but he has tons of total gems in his catalog. This demo track comes from a sampler CD I found at the record store, culled from the mas... Artist:
Track: Devil's Radio, The
how did i never listen to Robyn Hitchcock until last night? I mean, hello? He's amazing? WTF where WAS everyone for the past 22 years when they should have been telling me to listen to him? Seriously, not one single person. Ever. Happened by accident last night. Best thing ever. The entire world let me down on this one. Slackers. I'll not forget this, Earth.

Ole Robyn!

Artist:
Album:
Track:
Other Tags: Venus 3, Minus 5, REM, Peter Buck
Blog post image preview Robyn Hitchcock has a new album, and apparently, a new band. The band is Venus 3- made up of Peter Buck and guys from Minus 5, excuse me I dont know their names, yet...This is album number thirty-something for Robyn. Dont quote me on that, but even back in the late 80's when I first discovered him, he already had quite an impressive back catalog; and he really has never slowed down.In my opinion, Robyn has also gotten better with age. Sure, we dont get the novelty nonsense... MORE

Went to see Robyn Hitchcock at Maxwell's Saturday night. I had previously only seen him play solo, so seeing him with a full band (the Venus 3 with Peter Buck, Scott McCaughey and Bill Rieflin) was an amazing treat. Now I like Robyn, but I wouldn't consider myself a true fan, I leave that to the hubby, but my main observation for the night, is what a difference it makes to see someone with so much talent and presence. It did not matter that I only knew a handful of the ... MORE

If you're in the mood for some relaxing folk-pop ala Elliot Smith, Jude, Bayside, Iron & Wine then plug "Television" by Robyn Hitchcock into Pandora. It's groovy and mellow. That's all.

Ole! Tarantula, Indeed

Artist:
Album: Ole! Tarantula
Blog post image preview I've only listened to it once through, but I think Robyn Hitchcock's new cd, Ole! Tarantula, will quickly become one of my favorite new releases. I always find Hitchcock to be an oddly compeling artist, with his distinct voice and often weird-ass lyrics. This one is much more of a rock record than his last album, 2004's Spooked. This time around Hitchcock enlists The Venus 3 to serve as his backing band, a group made up of Peter Buck, Scott McCaughey, and Bill Riefli... MORE
