Finally got Black Snake Diamond Role by Robyn Hitchcock. It's his 1981 solo debut. I love Robyn Hitchcock. I think the guy is a genius. Every time I get an album by him I get so mentally satisfied and inspired. This one is definitely not a disappointment. My favorite song on the album is track 1 "The Man Who Invented Himself". It's crazy but I feel a strong connection to the man Robyn's singing about in this song. The album is loaded with top notch trippy pop music... MORE

Gotten pretty big into Robyn Hitchocock. I have 5-6 of his CD's and about 4 of his records, including a couple he's done with his band the Egyptians. I don't know what it is about Hitchcock--no one else really sounds like him (the Syd Barrett and Lennon comparisons notwithstanding). Some of his stuff is rather goofy in a very British way, but he has tons of total gems in his catalog. This demo track comes from a sampler CD I found at the record store, culled from the mas... MORE

Robyn Hitchcock has a new album, and apparently, a new band. The band is Venus 3- made up of Peter Buck and guys from Minus 5, excuse me I dont know their names, yet...This is album number thirty-something for Robyn. Dont quote me on that, but even back in the late 80's when I first discovered him, he already had quite an impressive back catalog; and he really has never slowed down.In my opinion, Robyn has also gotten better with age. Went to see Robyn Hitchcock at Maxwell's Saturday night. I had previously only seen him play solo, so seeing him with a full band (the Venus 3 with Peter Buck, Scott McCaughey and Bill Rieflin) was an amazing treat. Now I like Robyn, but I wouldn't consider myself a true fan, I leave that to the hubby, but my main observation for the night, is what a difference it makes to see someone with so much talent and presence. I've only listened to it once through, but I think Robyn Hitchcock's new cd, Ole! Tarantula, will quickly become one of my favorite new releases. I always find Hitchcock to be an oddly compeling artist, with his distinct voice and often weird-ass lyrics. This one is much more of a rock record than his last album, 2004's Spooked.
