While I go out and shovel snow, feel the riddim

Artist:
Track: Johnny Be Goode*
(151)
Of all the Ex-wailers, Peter Tosh has long been my favorite. His music is _punchier_ than Bob Marley's, with an edge like a stepping razor. Here he takes on Chuck Berry's Johnny B Goode with his trademark slow-burn groove. Dig it!

SUTC - Johnny B. Goode

(26)

I have a soft spot in my heart for this song (the original Chuck Berry version) . My son Sean used to sing, dance and play air guitar to his version "Seanny be good". Dedicated this tune to my 'baby boy' who is now 26 and would be more likely to listen to the Tosh version.

Peter Tosh - Mark of the Beast

Artist:
Track: Mark of the Beast/Version
(30)
was released on his HIM Intel Diplo (Intelligence Diplomat for His Imperial Majesty) label in 1977, didn't make it onto any of his LPs, and remains sought after by collectors. Here it is, ripped from ancient Jamaican vinyl, complete with dub version

Today is Grounation Day

(18)
The most sacred day in the Rastafarian calendar; on 21st April 1966 Emperor Haile Selassie visited Jamaica, to be greeted by over 100,000 Rastafarians (the authorities had no idea there were so many on the island), reducing the arrival at the airport and his drive into Kingston to utter chaos. This is Peter Tosh's take on the events at the time. The tune and lyrics are based on an old mento tune called "Archie Buck them Up"

A rare Peter Tosh melodica cut

Artist:
Track: Anti-Apartheid/Solidarity
(114)
of Bunny Wailer's "Amagideon" released on the Solomonic label in 1977, plus its dub version. I doubt there's many vinyl copies of this still around

Two more Peter Tosh rarities

Artist:
Track: Stepping Razor/ Dog Teeth
(10)
released on HIM Intel Diplo in 1967-68. Side One was written by Joe Higgs, and Side Two is yet another cut on the "Maga Dog" theme that the Wailers recorded as a ska tune, but was an old mento standard

Peter Tosh - Honorary Citizen

I don't know if it is the election season getting to me or what but I've been in a crazy Peter Tosh zone...Man, he could get outraged...you listen to the first disc on this three disc set and realize just how much so...There are few more righteous tracks than this one, all over the Satta Massaganna rhythm...

Peter Tosh - Bush Doctor

Artist:
Album:
Track:
A record best known for the presence of the Glimmer Twins, including a duet with Mick on (You Gotta Walk) Don't Look Back, Bush Doctor is one of Tosh's most accessible but interesting records. We got Mick out of the way. The duet is great, but Keef's riffing on the title track is definitely a highlight of the record. Whereas Mick is turned up in the mix and overpowers Tosh, Keith's searing overdubs are mixed perfectly and fit in tastefully. My favorite tracks on th... MORE

YEEEE-HA! SUNDAY COVERS!

Artist:
Album:
Track:

I have always liked Peter Tosh's music. I found it to be a little 'rockier' than a lot of Reggae music. Like Bob Marley, his music is imbued with a smoldering sense of anger at social injustice, and the emptiness of the spirit these injustices engender. More confrontational and militant than Marley, Peter Tosh was a stepping razor, not to be taken lightly. He also did some incredible covers in his day. Here's one.

Jamaican Reggae! Here is Peter Tosh with "Why Must I Cry?"

(115)
Blog post image preview Peter Tosh was one of the most famous Reggae artists from the 70`s. Together with his friend Bob Marley, they made this wonderful track together (one of many). "Why Must I Cry?" is taken from the album "Legalize It" from 1976. PETER TOSH - LEGALIZE IT (Colombia 1976)

..obviously nowhere near as momentous, but enough to give music fans pause... Peter Tosh, one of the original Wailers, was murdered on this date in 1987 and Mickey Hart, who I personally find one of the most self-important and ridiculous characters in the world was born...Let's get some healing on with this Tosh clip from YouTube..

Peter Tosh at his best I think. I like my music to be political sometimes and Peter Tosh's message is good to this day. Enjoy a great sound...
