So these videos may more or less be 'spoofs' but I generally think they look upon the music lovingly (and why wouldn't they). Found some great Hall & Oates recreations (I think I'm in the throes of a yacht rock phase) and made this Searchles mashup below. Reading brendanhalpin post about being stuck with commercial radio and hearing Lulu's "To Sir with Love" reminded me of a somewhat similar circumstance. The mind boggles....
So last Friday I went to the CD release party for J-Boogie and Sake One's new mixtape, Leftism, at BOCA in SF. I went with fellow KALX DJ's Sergio and Duncan and a couple of members of the opposite sex. It was kick-ass. J-Boogie and Sake One mixed a lot of different kinds of music together: Neo-Soul, Funk, Hip-Hop, Dance/Electronic, Dancehall, Disco and others all into a streamlined, accessible, very danceable set. Who would have thought that these two guys would put on the loudest concert over the last 25 years? No joke, half the crowd had their hands pressed against their ears for the entire show. I am pretty sure that the sound guy passed out a few songs in and swiped the volume knobs on his way down....
