Though I still haven't really figured out the benefits of Facebook, its ability to connect you to old friends is kinda neat.  Way back in the day somewhere in one of the more backwoods of Penns Woods there was a place where the only radio to speak of played a steady rotation of what is now called classic rock.  No funk, no disco, no punk, no new wave, all Lyrnd all the time.  And while we tried to figure out our lives, a friend of mine loaned me some albums his brother eit... Blog post image preview I had never heard XTC before, but I have _Black Sea_ now. First thought is that someone needs to mashup "Living Through Another Cuba" from this record with James Brown's "Living in America", famously from the _Rocky IV_ soundtrack. They almost sound like the same song but with different emotional/political filters applied. OK, So No One Gives A Shit About Tower Closing....

Blog post image preview While various folks flat out don't care, or even doubt the steady demise of good record stores, Tower lies like a stricken old man in a hospital bed, with greedy relatives picking the emaciated soon-to-be corpse of anything valuable. Tower.com was purchased for over 3 milion dollars a couple of days ago. And I did my ghoulish looting too - went to Tower in Huntington NY today and saw the "Going Out Of Business" signs outside. Everything was on sale, so I picked up 2 Depe... MORE

Free music video of towers of london (1)
Blog post image preview Hopefully there are a few folks out there who remember XTC's 1980 classic "Black Sea". Most folks remember XTC from the song "Dear God", which was a great song, but XTC is such a deep band. You absolutely have to check out "Black Sea" "English Settlement" and "Skylarking" - their three easiest records to get into. It's totally amazing to see how this band evolved from a punk band into these pastoral geniuses. This track, "Towers Of London" was done at time when they still... MORE
