One album that should be on everyone’s radar for the summer is local band Wye Oak’s The Knot out via Merge on July 21st. I had the pleasure of chatting with Andy Stack of Wye Oak just last week. Andy and Jenn (Wasner) were in Brooklyn heading over to do a recording/practice session with another [...]

Baltimore’s Wye Oak have just announced the release of their new album The Knot. On July 21st Merge Records will release this follow up to the outstanding If Children. They were nice enough to give us the first single off of the album entitled “Take It In”. Why don’t we do that now:mp3: Wye Oak [...]
If Children, Wye Oak’s debut LP, found a balance between loud and soft, often one or the other and rarely hitting that middle ground. “Take It In”, off Andy and Jenn’s follow-up, The Knot, continues this trend but finds the band a bit more comfortable in their skin. The juxtaposition of the louds [...]
"The Knot" is the second effort by Maryland duo Wye Oak. Heard them before on a split and thought that they were your run-of-the-mill indie/folk crossover. Yet "The Knot" has much in store both in the songwriting department as well as the sound.
Named after their home state of Maryland's honorary tree (which was unfortunately felled back in 2002 by a large storm), Wye Oak came as quite the surprise here at Strange Glue (something the tree could have used). When a band you've not had the pleasure of hearing before suddenly turn up and genuinely impress you on the very first listen; it's always a smoother and better experience to absorb ...
Oooo, Wye Oak and Shearwater in one night.. would have beena good night to be in Denver. Head over to Flat Response to listen to and download both sets. Also check out a review of the show here. For two people, Jenn Wasner and Andy Stack had a huge sound. Although Wasner’s girlish but resonantly powerful [...]
Opening for Shearwater last Wednesday at the Echo were Jenn Wasner and Andy Stack, the Baltimore-based duo who make up Wye Oak. Jenn is the singer and songwriter, and she can shred the bejeebers out of a bass guitar too. Andy keeps busy with one hand on the drum kit and the other on the keyboards and electronics. Together they wind lots of good ear-candy around Jenn's delightfully melodic co...
Baltimore duo Wye Oak have given us the swirling, multi-layered "Warning " along with "I Don't Feel Young" -- in both unplugged and QYDJ forms. Here, we get a look and listen at another If Children track, "Please Concrete," via its Caleb Stine and Eric Diga-directed video. In the clip, a little girl wanders her dull neighborhood (and its Where The Sidewalk Ends cracking sidewalk), stumbling upo...
Here's the first of two. I wouldn't expect the second until early June-ish, unless I get on my horse before Thursday (probably not). Tracklist below. Enjoy! 128k mp3 , 69:58, 63MB 1. The D ø " On My Shoulders" A Mouthful is one of my three or four favorite records this year. It's too long, but that's kids for you. This song, along with "At Last" (on the Myspace) and a few others, are s..
