Double word score!

I was talking this weekend with a classmate about how much we loved to play Scattergories, when I brought up the distinct advantage we had when the best scattergory ever came up ... band names. That's an automatic 2-3 points in the bank for me, because my RL friends aren't going to guess the band names I know. More likely, they're going to challenge me. A foolish venture, especially if the host...

i posted about Colin Newman last Friday and couldn't pass up the chance to remind everyone of Big Black's noise rock cover of Heartbeat, one of my favorite Wire tunes, from the 1978 album Chairs Missing. original in the mp3, cover on video. sorry if this post has been done, i didn't have time to check.so many artists have covered Wire, my head hurts just thinking about it but, notably, My Blood...

I know, I know, spelling . Geez, gimme a break. It's late. Wire. I can't say enough. One of my faves is "I Feel Mysterious Today" from 154.I liked so much I painted the words (in acrylic paint) on a white T shirt. Wife made me throw it away. That old thing. (Insert awkward moment and tears). Man, Did I fall for them good.Salute!

Bunch of school night gigs

Culminating a long MOG absence, and after a summer living out of a suitcase, I've just moved to a new country and city. I'm still in the process of getting my life, both working and personal, going. Just last night, I spent 5 hours unpacking and organizing CDs. I'm trying to find out where to get good bread, good cheese, fresh herbs. And so on. Hopefully more regular MOGging will also resume. ...

If you don't live in the New York metro area, chances are you missed the free WIRE concert at South Street Seaport last evening. Here's a report from one eyewitness:

"Anyone brave enough to leave the tourist gulag of Midtown Manhattan knows that New York is to pretentiousness what the Vatican is to Catholicism, what Washington, DC is to politics, what South Baltimore is to crack, and what Sylvia's is to chicken and waffles. Can't count how many conversations like this one I've had since I matriculated a couple years ago: "friend: ____ just opened/is playing...

Golux13 and I went to the Wire show at Metro last month (yay!). While the show was quality, the duration was sadly lacking. With doors at 9pm and an opening band one might expect to still be enjoying live music at, say, 12:30 am. Chicago was, evidently, the last stop on the tour. The crowd was stupifyingly sedare. Perhaps that's a contributing factor for the short show? We met a guy who showed ...

Suicidal Tendencies and Wire: Two bands you tought could never be in the same post
6 months ago

Has anyone else ever noticed how much Suicidal Tendencies "I Saw Your Mommy" sounds like "Feeling Called Love" by Wire? I never noticed the similarity in the two songs until one day while walking to work they came on my iPod back to back.Since Wire's song came out in 1977 and Suicidal's circa 1982 I think it is safe to assume who influenced who. I wonder what the countless thrash/metal bands Su...

The new Wire music is great and I've fallen under the spell of their whole catalog this week. Whatever Wire have been in the past [angular punks, uneven synth-poppers] they are now a driving, buzzing, popping and cooly aestheticized machine with newfound shamelessness in thier simple pop-hooks. They always had a catchy and harsh side, willing to engage with melody and then discard it to play wi...

Generally Getting the Idea

I think I'm figuring this out. It's like Last.fm except, so far at least, significantly better. I'm guessing you treat the postings like blogs. Well if it's a blog, I suppose I talk about what's going on then. Well, if you care to listen, I host a radio show at my college's online radio station. Check it out! I play whatever I want, it's pretty nice. Sonic Saturday4-6 PM Saturdays (Of course...
