Wilco - Wilco (the Album) (2009)

I came into Wilco (The Album) with loads of reservations. I was not a fan of Sky Blue Sky at all. It felt like a bad break-up. I came into that album feeling like I was going to be blown away only the album didn't even give me a cold...

Wilco: Wilco (the album)

Wilco are one of those bands that I have never really locked horns with, along with actslike The Hold Steady and Conor Oberst which I imagine appeal to asimilar group of people. With all the brouhaha that has accompanied therelease of this record I thought it might be time to make a detour and cross paths; to challenge my assumption that they are a bland, radio friendly outfit straddling the tw...

CD Review: Wilco ~ Wilco (The Album)

On their latest album, Wilco decide to get meta. Rather than go the route that many other acts before them have chosen (i.e., take themselves incredibly seriously, try to save the world through artistic expression, etc.), Wilco have decided to become self-aware, eschewing artful mystique in favor of playful recognition of the fact that yes, Jeff Tweedy [...]

Friday Mix Tape: Just Duet

We've been slacking on our Friday Mix Tapes of late, but fear not loyal HT readers - we think this week's fantastic mix will make up for its recent absences. This week's batch of tasty tunes is dedicated to the seemingly lost art of the duet, with a number of my favorites from the last few years. So without wasting anymore time with this intro, let's just get at it…We kick things off with the o.

Wilco @ Keyspan Park, Coney Island, 7-13-09

(photo not from Keyspan)As I’ve done the past two years after seeing Wilco live, here’s a bunch of the (many) highlights of Monday night’s amazing show at Keyspan Park in Coney Island. In list form no less.1. Yo La Tengo opened and ran through about an hour’s worth of material, much of it I enjoyed without being very familiar with. I was catching up with some old friends (re: annoying the

THERE ARE TIMES WHEN ITS GOTTA BE LIVE

.............Sometimes its gotta be live. Sometimes a song conceived in the studio is reborn on stage. Sometimes a good song becomes a great song as the artists find new ambient pathways within melody, rhythm, & lyrical interpretation. Not so much a reimagining as a reexamination, a revisiting. A celebration of intent over imitation....At Least Thats What You Said is a good case in point. The ...

From the band to fans: "Well, we made it nearly a month with copies of Wilco (the album) floating around out there before it leaked. Pretty impressive restraint in this day and age. But the inevitable happened last night. Since we know you're curious and probably have better things to do than scour the internet for a download (though we do understand the attraction of the illicit), we've posted...

Is your band a "gay" band
Blog post image preview

Further proof has come up that there are some people in this world who should not be allowed to talk, let alone think. A faith besed Ministry who calls themselves Love God's Way has released a list of "gay bands" and "safe bands". This is an organization that has a section of their website called C.H.O.P.S which stands for Changing Homosexuals into Ordinary People. Don't believe me that this ki...

Bennett is suing Wilco for royalties he says he never received for participating on epic Wilco albums "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot" and "Being There." The damages are specified in the lawsuit as "at least $50,000." Bennett also wants the dough for having his face splashed all over the b...

While Lollapalooza ticket holders were coming down from Wilco's Saturday night performance at the fest, Chicago Cub fans were experiencing one of the greatest Wilco performances ever Sunday midday at Wrigley Field. Nuff said. A Jeff Tweedy interview follows the seventh inning stretch. Shout out to my pal and Wilco diehard Dan Fetter for sending me the link!
