What Made Milwaukee Famous?

Blog post image preview Either the band is posing this question, or they are referring to themselves as the source of fame. If the former, I would have to say beer. If the latter, they must be a rather pretentious bunch. Or maybe they are not posing a question, but instead are using their name as a clever way to name their band "Beer" without actually using that word, because how can anyone take a band seriously that is called "beer," right? Well, I suppose if they were opening for Jimmy Buff... MORE

Blog post image preview Ever since I was a kid and my sister brought home that first _"Squeeze UK"_ album I feel as if i've been chasing their style of postpunkpop around. Once in a while I'll find a band that reminds me of that _"Difford and Tilbrook"_ sound. I see a lot of that style in this band out of Austin TX. I've had this album for awhile but for whatever reason I'm just starting to listen to them now, I don't know why?

a solid show...

Blog post image preview so i saw the bill for this show and it's something that's never happened before - three bands, all of which i had heard before and liked. so i had to check it out. the lonely h opened with a lot of youthful energy (all members are 18) and a LOT of hair - between those five boys, they have a good seven, eight feet of hair on them. one song had a franz-ferdinandesque danceable riff to it. they were definitely fun...there's a lot of potential there. all the hair... what m... What Made Milwaukee FamousWMMF is an indie-rock band based in Austin, TX. They are signed to Barsuk (which may give you a clue as to what they sound like) and recently finished a tour with the Long Winters. I'm so excited to see that they will be coming back home soon (in March, to be exact) and playing with Dr. Dog whom I missed Saturday night. www.whatmademilwaukeefamous.comwww.myspace.com/whatmademilwaukeefamous Dr. DogMakes you feel like you are in a carefree 1960... In another incarnation I managed bands in Austin. I'm now in LA for the summer, a semester short of my RTF degree from UT, for which I will return to Austin in August to complete. I made a ton of friends in the Austin scene, and was privvy to the early stages of many fantastic (and even more who should keep it to the garage) bands.I arrived late at a Zykos show one evening when a friend with trusted ears told me I had just missed the most brilliant band he'd heard in som...
