I have liked a couple of albums this year, They are headed for my super-secret best of 2008... a list that I plan to print in 2018 per the 'it takes ten years to be classic' rule...a and I hope that everything on that list will still make the cut a decade later... but honestly, this one song, this one take, I might just go ahead and call it the song of the year... and what do you know it's ove...

Waylon Jennings' grand, final hurrah on video and CD
about 1 year ago

The Southland's Bleeding

"The Southland's Bleeding" is one of only three songs sung by Waylon Jennings on this album so I guess you can't really call this a "Waylon Jennings" Album although he is the Narrator of the story. This is an Early Concept Album/Story Album which originated in London back in 1978 which is probably why it never made the mainstream here, That or I Missed it back then which is totally possibl...

Now I've not got anything against Mr Jennings, but I don't actually have this song in my collection, so I'm mystified as to why it's made an appearance in my recently played list. 'Ghosts in the Machine" as the geography teacher would have it.

Waylon Jennings Lives!!

Shooter Jennings has proved to be a worthy successor to his dear ol' departed daddy, but the fact remains that there is only one Outlaw that is lonesome, ornry and mean and that is Waylon himself. It looks like Shooter finished what he and his daddy started a bit before Waylon's death and we will soon see the release [...]

Back in college I, like most wannabe hipsters in the mid- and late 1990s, drew a line between the cool "new" alt-country and the Top 40 country artists that plagued the radio waves.I clearly remember telling my roommate, an open-minded mainstream country fan, as we listened to the Jayhawks' first record Blue Earth, that the music she was hearing wasn't "country." "Yes it is," she insisted. "No,...
