AMG Review of The One and Only Waylon
Matt Fink
All Music GuideA largely forgotten collection, The One and Only Waylon contains some tracks that really deserve a better fate. Accompanied by the Waylors on the majority of the tracks, Jennings delivers a set of concise, tasteful, more pop-oriented songs. Most of the cuts are covers, and some, like Johnny Cash's "You Beat All I Ever Saw" and the Roy Orbison classic "Dream Baby," work pretty well. Bobby Womack's "It's All Over Now" sounds a little awkward and doesn't seem to fit quite as well. Though there's nothing here in particular to get excited about, there's enough to keep the casual fan interested.
