So as part of my 'farewell tour' of Columbus venues I have been buying two tickets to all of these shows and giving one to a good friend, just my way of saying thanks and goodbye. Saw them play at the Warfield in SF the a few weeks ago. They opened with their "We do not fuck around" intro which was hilarious because I think half of the people their had no idea what was going on. I have their CD now and have been putting it on right before I catch some ZzZ's and it just gets better each time I listen to it. Especially after witnessing first hand anita's hard hitting guitar solo's.

I first saw Viva Voce (Kevin and Anita Robinson) in February when I went to see The Shins at The Paramount in Seattle. I had never heard them before, so I didn't know what to expect. I have to say that they absouletly blew me away. You rarely find that kind of sound, or that much sound, in a two-person group. After they were finished I was kinda sad that they couldn't play more. Just handed this forthcoming album from Viva Voce about an hour ago and I gotta say it's sticking like shit to a wall already, or glue if you prefer the lighter metaphor. Can't really say which songs I'm gonna obsess over first, so I'm gonna post the one that was playing while I wrote this post.

Although I enjoyed Viva Voce's Get Yr Blood Sucked Out so much that it made my top albums of 2006 list, I had not seen them live until last night. Blew. Me. Away. They filled Portland's Crystal Ballroom with a sound so big and rich that I could've sworn there were ten musicians up on stage. Who knew two people could make so much noise? Despite all of my Valentines Day bashing, life is good. I am happy...mostly due to music.
I have yet to find any life-related crisis or mood-altering funk that music, more specifically, one well timed song or album couldn't set me free from.
So here is my Valentine dedication to my first real love...music.

So...about a week ago - Viva Voce rocked the fresh, young faces off of The Shin's fans. It was an awesome set. Me being one of the eight people of the hundreds there to have prior knowledge of V.V's tendancy to do just this thing, I was prepared, but nun-the-less found myself faceless after their 45 minutes. Saw these two open up for Silversun Pickups last night...they just about stole the show...SO GOOD LIVE! They hail from Portland, OR....someone in the Pacific Northwest tell me why so much good music comes from up there? Its like the North American Sweden!!
