At some point, great Christmas songs go from being classics to standards. Traditional Christmas carols as well as tracks like "The Christmas Song" will be covered by artists for a very, very long time. One song that I think has gone from classic to standard (or is at least on the way there) is "Christmas Time Is Here" from A Charlie Brown Christmas. Another piece which comes from “A Charlie Brown Christmas” is this beautiful number which describes in music what words cannot express: the feeling of skating with friends on a frozen pond. It’s buoyancy is as engaging as watching snowflakes falling.

The holiday music continues. The soundtrack to A Charlie Brown Christmas is my all-time favorite Christmas album. My love of it dates all the way back to the days when the only Christmas music we had was a set of vinyl records. ...I know that the Vince Guaraldi Trio's classic "A Charlie Brown Christmas" only goes into heavy rotation during the end of the year but I listen to it year 'round anyways and have said as much in the past ...I've always dug the jams below when I'm kicking back or reading...too, it was always playing in the background last year during some very special moments...if this doesn't make you want to have a little fun, I don't know what will...

Yesterday at work one of my colleagues was playing his favorite Christmas song: "I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas" by Gayla Peevey from1953. Having just done my favourites of 2006, I've also picked out a couple of things that are making the run up to Christmas bearable.
Vince Guaraldi's Christmas Time Is Here is as old as the hills and truly seasonal. Dream Song by Scott Matthews is very new, and yet very timeless at the same time.

Heh. Yesterday marked the official opening of "holiday music season" in the Blackwell home. As such, my playlist info will probably consist of more Christmas music than most folks would deem acceptable for about the next month ...
