Village People Biography

Source: Wikipedia

Village People is a concept disco group formed in the late 1970s. The group is as well known for its outrageous on-stage costumes as for its catchy tunes and suggestive lyrics. The members each dress as a police officer, an American Indian chief, a construction worker, a member of the military, a leatherman (biker), and a cowboy; after the release of In the Navy, both Victor Willis and Alex Briley appeared temporarily as sailors. Each of the members were basically dressed as forms of masculin...Read More >

I'm speechless after seeing this clip. It's just about everything I want from a YouTube video - weird? (check) from the seventies or early 80's? (check) Re- appropriation of American Pop Culture by another culture? (check). The background dancers would make Tom of Finland proud, though. The very fact that the singers name is Gregorius, makes me think of the word Gregarious. Yes, yes you are my friend. Enjoy.... MORE

Blog post image preview San Diego prosecutors threw out abuse charges against Victor Edward Willis, the original policeman in the 1970s music group the Village People. Willis was arrested last month on suspicion of attacking his live in girlfriend. David Pogue (of the "... for Dummies" series of computer manuals) has written some nice lyrics in honor of the honorable Recording Industry Association of America, to be sung to the tune of "YMCA". They're in his N.Y.T. e-mail column. Enjoy... "R.I.A.A" Young man,
    You were surfing along,
    And then, young man,
    You downloaded a song,
    And then, dumb man,
    Copied it to your 'Pod,
Then a phone call came to tell you: You've just been sued by the R.I.A.A.!
    Yo... MORE

Blog post image preview I continue to be amazed by the videos you can find on Youtube.com. Bizarre stuff you never know existed. Strange stuff you wish never existed. Case in point, the video for Sex Over The Phone, a 1985 tune by the Village People. Truth by told, I thought the band broke up back in 1981. (Wishful thinking.) I'm still mad that my parents made me see "Can't Stop The Music" twice in the movie theaters. Anyway, click my latest blog item to see the video and to see what the b... MORE
