On April 8, the band celebrate the release of their latest album, Tight Knit, with a show at the Great American Music Hall sponsored by our good friends The Bay Bridged. Vetiver is the baby of sing/songwriter Andy Cabic. The San Fransisco-based band has just released their fourth full length album, and their first for Sub Pop, Tight Knit. The 10-song collection is built upon a solid foundation of American folk and indie rock. Cabic proves equally capable of penning introspective, yearning songs ("Rolling Sea", "Through the Front Door") as he is more sunny pop (

Tight Knit is Vetiver's fourth album, but it's their first appearance in my music collection. San Francisco singer-songwriter Andy Cabic is the soul of the band that plays gently strummed, breezy acoustic songs perfect for a beach day along the Bay. While the slower tracks like "Rolling Sea" and "Through The Front Door" are the [...]

Back in May of this year Fat Cat released the album Thing Of The Past by Vetiver. While browsing the new releases in my local record shop I picked it up and thought "oh, another Vetiver album". I wasn't rushing to the shops to find it, and I recently overlooked going to see them play at a festival in favour of milling around.

As we mentioned last month, Vetiver recently released the EP More of The Past, a follow-up and companion piece to their album of eclectic covers, Thing of The Past. As we did with the LP, here are some the originals, including Nils Lofgren's early work with his short-lived, early '70s band, Grin, and New [...]

It may be Monday, I may have many tasks at hand, but my mind may not have caught onto that notion yet ... it's looking both behind and in front of me, slyly evading the limbo of the everyday. I've been filling the space in between with the lovely new album from Vetiver, Tight Knit, which is due out on SubPop on the 17th. It has steadily worked its way under my skin and is taking up shop right w...

Well it sure is quiet around here. I am not on boycott (insanely busy, perhaps) ... and no offense or lack of respect for my friends and e-fam who are, but I gotta stand on my own (never was much of a conformist anyway, drove my poor mother crazy!). Oh MOG, I love ya and like Schloopy's gaseous pain, this too shall hopefully pass. And for the two or three of you who are still listening, here ar...

My review of the new all-covers Vetiver album Thing of the Past just went up at Pure Music, and it started like this:Vetiver, Thing of the Past, (Gnomonsong)Thing of the Past is a quirky, lovingly considered covers album, unearthing long lost gems and also-ran album tracks. The band wraps these songs affectionately in warm arrangements of guitars, banjo, strings and voices. Yet though the album...

I was pleased to find today that my neighbor who I thought was at death's door appears to be back home and well enough to be out and about in the yard enjoying this beautiful spring day we have here. I think this song fits the day and my mood well....and since it's Sunday I guess I can contribute to the usual cover influx of the day. Here's Vetiver covering Bobby Charles' "I Must Be In A Good P...
