Oh man, so I accidentally came upon something spectacular today that I never knew exsisted... I was at Best Buy today, where I picked up Jenny Lewis and The Watson Twin's album, Rabbit Fur Coat. Then, being the good friend that I am, I took it to meet my friend Travis and allow him to enjoy the musical goodness with me. (Aren't I such a great friend?) Otherwise known as Lucky Wilbury or Boo Wilbury. I liked the music Bob did with his contempories here especially this track Dirty World.
The newly remastered Traveling Wilburys Collection was released today and I didn't waste any time picking up my copy. Disk 1 is a CD with the Volume One album on it but also includes two (never officially released) bonus tracks: "Maxine" and "Like A Ship". George Harrison handles the lead vocal on Maxine and I already owned a copy of this one on the George Harrison bootleg Pirate Songs (edited a bit shorter here but the sound quality is of course much better). We pre-ordered the Rhino new release of the Traveling Wilburys 3 disc set and, of course, really enjoy it. We are curious of the history of a different 3 disc Wilbury collection we found online recently. The DVD disc in particular is different and contains a whole lot more "bonus" material icluding two versions of the Wilbury Twist that are totally different that the more MTV styled video that Rhino offered. It must have been over a year ago when I read they were going to reissue the Traveling Wilburys albums. I have been waiting rather impatiently ever since. I was finally rewarded today with an early birthday present from my Mom, who also loves the Wilburys. (I'm pretty sure she'd like me to hurry up and let her borrow the CDs.) It amazes me how well I remember these songs. I admit I haven't listened to them in quite a while. (Somewhere I have a cassette copy of both ... MORE
