Two UK tour dates have been confirmed for Tortoise, both spread sparsely apart and both in support of the bands newest record 'Beacons Of Ancestorship'. Their first dates comes August 25th at the London Garage and then four months later, the legendary collective will play at the Ten Years Of ATP Festival in Minehead on December 11th to 13th.
I made it down to seattle for the "Tortoise":http://www.trts.com/site.html show this past tuesday. Definitely worth the trek. I have listened Tortoise for a while now but never seen them live. The heavily percussive element of their music was brought to full force in a live setting. Especially notable for me were the dual drumsets. The drummers (Dan Bitney, John McEntire, & John Herndon) who ...

By that I mean, their rep is not nearly sufficient. When I mention Tortoise, I should get reactions along the line of those usually reserved for acts of daring, or innovation, or renown. I should get the same kind of reaction that I'd get if I said that the Kronos Quartet are performing. But I don't; people don't seem to understand that this post-rockin' (though FAR beyond "post-rock" at this p...

Tortoise has a new album, Beacons of Ancestorship, coming out June 23! Here are a couple of the new songs I stumbled on today. One is compared to a rave/dance track, and the other sounds like Tortoise making a nu-metal jam:“High Class Slim Came Floatin’In”(mp3 via stereogum)“Prepare Your Coffin”(mp3 via pitchfork)Tortoise is playing the Troubadour [...]
NAME : Tortoise PROGRESS REPORT : Recording their sixth studio LP at Soma Electronic Music Studios, Chicago, Illinois.A strange part of every All Tomorrow's Parties festival is its "Don't Look Back" night, where bands play their most beloved album from beginning to end. For some of the bands at New York's ATP festival, like the Meat Puppets, it was a welcome return. But for bands that are still...
