is it really possible to understand the real depth of tool? it feels like every time you hear a tool song, it can acquire new meanings. lateralus (the album, not the song), for instance... right now, i'm thinking about it in a nietzschean perspective. the quest for individual enlightment and detachment from the common, simple world of mediocrity. but reflection takes lateralus to a level that is beyond even nietzsche. we, the enlightened, must act like seeds, to pry open t... Tomorrow night is our annual costume gathering in these parts, marking the first year it isn't being held on the DAY of Halloween. I know, I know, it's not the same; but partying in the middle of the week has become increasingly difficult, and I'm really trying to get my drunk on ;-) I will be going as the Queen of Hearts. It is a ridiculous-looking get-up based on the Disney version of Alice In Wonderland, one that _definitely_ requires inebriation (but really all of ... MORE
Happy Halloween MOGland!
Last night was pumpkin carving time, and I was dead set on making another music-themed design this year. After much deliberation, I finally settled on this one. Please keep in mind that I have no knack whatsoever for arts and crafts. And here's the pumpkin army... I had forgotten how much patience it takes to carve a pumpkin - sheesh! At least we only do it once a year... Have a safe & fun Halloween everyone!
Just found some video of Tool and Tom Morello playing "Lateralus" at Bonnaroo. Tom jams it out for about 4 minutes and takes a phone call in the middle. This must be one of Maynard's new gags because when I saw Tool in Baltimore recently he brought out the old school phone. It would appear that Morello is playing Adam Jones's Les Paul. Enjoy.
Fibonacci Sequence + Lateralus Mathematical significance Maynard James Keenan's vocals during the first few minutes of Lateralus form a Fibonacci sequence. The number of syllables progress to the sixth step, then back down to the first step; up to the seventh step, and then back to the fourth step: [1] black[1] then[2] white are[3] all I see[5] in my infancy[8] red and yellow then came to be[5] reaching out to me[3] lets me see[2] there is[1] so[1] much[2] more and[3... I have never listened to so much Tool in my ENTIRE life. See, I am writing the aforementioned essay on Jungian theory and Tool. For my inspiration, I have been listening to the songs that I feel represent what I am talking about. Over and over again, its been Parabol/Parobola, Forty-six & 2 and Lateralus, one after the other. I've decided that along with the essay and quotes from the songs, I am going to put the tracks to disc, so she can actually here what it is that... MORE
