Somewhere…there’s a couple who started the growing tradition of assembling, burning and distributing mix CDs as keepsakes at weddings. So much for matchbooks as marriage mementos. The first wedding CD that I encountered was handed out about five years ago when my longtime fellow nightclub habitué Shannon married her beau Michael. They gave out discs that featured music played during the ceremo

A very insightful interview Tom Waits conducted with, well, Tom Waits was recently published online. In it we discover some of the deeper personal meanings behind some of his songs, a list of some of the most influential artists upon his life and why, as well as just the general tomfoolery we've grown to expect from Waits. I must admit, before meeting Tom, I had heard so many rumors and so much...

Anytime I mention Tom Waits to my contemporaries, I usually get a shoulder shrug, face scrunch "I can only take him in small doses" response. Some told me Bob Dylan on his worse day sounds better. I guess it is just something you have to "get" Heck, I don't need to change the world, I just need to make mine better and with Mr. waits taking up residence, I believe it is. This version is taken fr...

One of my favorite ways to find out about music that I have never heard is to hear about it from a band or artist that I already love.Case in point, while at one of the gazillion Pearl Jam shows I attended during the mid-90's they played 'Daughter' and during the interlude Eddie threw in these amazing lyrics that I had never heard before! I spent the next three weeks on a mission to find out wh...

Ah...this song come up via the shuffle tonight and reminded me of an old girlfriend. The only girlfriend I have ever lived with. She was a great person...but we were just in different places in our lives. She was the kind of girl who had been planning her wedding since she was like 6...i was the kind of guy who had trouble committing to a two hour movie. It's not that I didn't love her, because ...

Tom Waits was awarded the key to the city of El Paso, Texas. Although the key was bestowed to the legendary bluesman man in a unceremonious way Waits was visibly moved, reports NME.He was not expecting the honor when a uniformed officer walked on-stage at El Paso's Plaza Theatre, where he was performing. "I paid all those tickets," Waits quipped when he saw the officer, adding "She was dead w...

You can never tell if Tom waits is drunk or not. During his latest press conference announcing a summer tour behind his new album Glitter And Doom, we're pretty sure he wasn't. Waits and his raspy voice kick off June 17th in Phoenix, AZ and the rest of the southern stops follow the "constellation Hydra":http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydra_(constellation) (sorta). The guiding word of the tour, an...

There once was a time when Tom didn't growl, back before he "made it", back when he was young and hungry, back in 1973. This is a bit I put together of a Tom Waits in studio appearance on KPFK in LA back on August 12th of 73. We have tunes, we have interview - real cool stuff. About 15 minutes or so and well worth the time. Hope someone enjoys it.
