It's crazy to think that less than a year and a half ago, Scott Reitherman and his bedroom pop project Throw Me The Statue were about as underground as underground gets. Since our first post back in June '07, TMTS has seen all sorts of much-deserved success (anyone see those Rhapsody commercials?). Seems like no one could avoid that catchy lick from "Lolita".It was great too see that TMTS fin...
Hopefully all of you registered to vote. If not, you can see if you still have time by browsing this list and finding your state. I hope all of you have been keeping informed, as Early Voting is now underway in all states that allow it. I, for one, plan on making my way to the early polling location today after work to cast my ballot. I knew who I wanted to vote for last May and nothing has cha...
Urban Outfitters is giving away a free 21-song mix featuring some of your favorite independent artists...Throw Me The Statue, King Khan & The Shrines, Chad VanGaalen, Black Kids, Architecture In Helsinki, Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson, War On Drugs, Blitzen Trapper, The Dodos and many, many more. Most all of these are available numerous other places for free, but it's nice to have them lumpe...
Back from a brief break spreading the News , BTW TMTS offer a follow-up to the "Lolita " clip with a shot of "Yucatan Gold." This one features a lot more Scott Reitherman, with frenetic editing to match the under pulse, frame speeds flipping from half time to double. The band is very busy doing nothing, which is probably fair since this song is all Scott, in instrumentation and sexual confessio...
Greg Katz , scornful of my love affair with panning, once told me, "You have two ears! Get over it!" Throw Me The Statue could do with some advice like that. They've filled up Moonbeams with enough stereo production to overload a guy with three ears (much less a standard binaural set) and possibly cause internal hemorrhaging in anybody with a 5.1 system. It's also on the lo-fi side, a produ...
An honorable mention for a great 2008 showing with the album, Moonbeams. This song and video are definite standouts from this Pacific NW band. A band to watch..
I mentioned this band -- which is really more of a solo project -- over the holidays. Now, the record's out and my review's up. Only four people took a chance on this song last time I was hawking it...why not give it a spin now? I am really, really enjoying the debut album from Seattle's Throw Me the Statue, fuzzy, sweet, Elephant Six-ish band that is mostly Scott Reithermann, augmented by about half a dozen of his best friends on everything from melodica to trombone. It's sort of wispy, pastel-colored pop, a little too muscle-y to be really twee, a little too intelligent to be saccharine or cutesy. This is not my us...
Signed to promising indie label Secretly Canadian and now on album numero two, Throw Me The Statue have fast become one of the more appreciated indie-pop collectives around. They're latest album, this years Creaturesque (which we reviewed HERE) was a mix of highs and lows but did hold this rather entertaining little anthem here, by the name of Hi-Fi Goon.
This is the quintessential quandary of zoos: cage them, and the animals lose their natural personality, let them roam and they end up graphically illustrating the food-chain. It's nice to take the children along, show them what a lesser-spotted hiphopopotamus actually looks like, but you're not actually seeing the creature as it should be, in its natural habitat.
Throw Me The Statue's 'Creaturesque' should tick all the right boxes. The Seattle four piece's second album offers upbeat electro-indie pop, fine melodies and bittersweet lyrics on modern life. The band's founder Scott Reitherman also has an immediately likeable voice and style, reminiscent of the likes of Death Cab For Cutie's Ben Gibbard. But unfortunately....more.
Seattle indie pop rockers Throw Me The Statue have a new album on the way this August. The new album, called Creaturesque, will be released on August 4th via Secretly Canadian. Take a listen to the song "Ancestors" from the new album.Throw Me The Statue - "Ancestors"
Throw Me the Statue is primarily the songwriting vehicle for Scott Reithermann, a multi-instrumentalist who released his first album, Moonbeams , in 2007, which was re-released earlier this year. With help from Pedro the Lion collaborator Casey Foubert and other friends, Reithermann creates a fuzzy, low-key, indie pop sound with a mix of organic and programmed percussion and mostly acoustic ...
Indie band Throw Me the Statue are back with a new EP entitled Purpleface, a four-song follow-up to last year's Moonbeams. The record features three new songs, "That's How You Win," "Honeybee," and "Ship," and one reworking of a previously released tune, "Written In Heart Signs, Faintly." The band are also recording a full-length LP to be released later this year (hopefully). You can download ...
