An Archtype of the 70s live album

Artist:
Other Tags: rock, live, 70's
The gatefold. The wide shot wide angle shot of the crowd. The color-gel lighting photography. OK, it was released in 1969, but this album for me is just oozes that big concert vibe of the 70's. Maybe it set the trend? Maybe this is the "Charlie Parker with Strings" of the rock world? Would 'Kiss Alive' have looked the same without this album? Back before it went corporate, back when the lighting caught a mist of blue smoke. The only remnant of the 60's I can see are the sc... MORE

It's a little known secret that Three Dog Night were one of the funkiest bands in the land, especially on their 'album' tracks. Here's a prime example.

My roommate told me not to sing this song

My daily commute consist of 15 minutes of the best 97.1 has to offer in Atlanta. They usually rotate in new (old) songs and then play them for a while. A recent play was a Three Dogs Night song that I couldn't credit to them. I know Joy to the World and even saw One Dog Night (Danny Hutton) in concert when I was little. When Mama Told Me (Not To Come) the high pitched energetic song brought out my falsetto car singing catastrophe (I'm a bass). Anyways, I've learn to... MORE

Lemme tell you people, lager in the afternoon is not always a good idea. Found myself thinking 'bout ever more cheerful choons, so here's another triumvirate that tickles our Tel. Anyone share my shameful fondness for The Cufflinks...? ...those of you who know me would have already suspected that Mr Costello wouldn't be too far away... ...and we'll close (for now...) with the opening and closing titles of a much-missed televisual treat...

Three Dog Thursday

(30)
The first tune I ever heard from Three Dog Night was 'Liar', which I heard on an AM station in Longview, Washington on a summer vacation at my grandparents. Well, after hearing that particular tune, I made up my mind that the first LP purchase of my fledgling music-buying career was going to be 'Naturally' - the album that contained the aforementioned tune. When I got back home to SoCal later that summer, I begged my mom to take me down to White Front (K-Mart-ish departm... MORE

1975 - In The Basement At Home - SOML Post # 4

(96)
Blog post image preview In 1975, Three Dog Night released their greatest hits album, and my brothers wore the LP out on the turntable. My brothers were 10 and 12 years older than me, and so were teenagers exposing their little brother to the evils of rock n roll. I know this song is considered a cheesy '70s throw-back that you can still hear on the radio today, but at the time, hearing the song over and over again in the basement, it took on an eerie hypnotic quality. That single note over an... MORE

3 Songs on a Deserted Island

My number today is three. This post's prompting is three-fold. 1.) So, I'm fighting some kind of ailment and took cough medicine at 3 this morning (which still has me kinda loopy); 2.) my boyfriend and I resumed our task last night of watching season two of Lost (or rather catching up with the rest of the free world); and 3.) I was reading the responses to my Tori Amos post from the other day, and these three things combined led me to the question that I am about to post... MORE

I am in my college's silk line... you know, the flags that are spinning when the ridiculous marching band starts playing. and since Penn State made it to a bowl game, I get to go to Florida on the university's dime. I'm excited. also, since my iPod is currently a three hundred dollar paperweight, I need to make mix cds. I leave december twentyninth. and so, please leave your favorite song at the beep... MORE

Um...downloaded a new album by this band called "The Feeling" They are good, not the best band i've heard, but they are listenable and some of their songs are catchy and some are a tad to silly, even for me, but they are good. I really haven't been listeing to music all that much th... MORE
