The XX have officially become a trio since the departure of their keyboardist/guitarist, Baria Qureshi (pictured second from the left). The band cancelled a number of gigs recently due to Baria’s illness and exhaustion. Baria has now decided to leave the band for good and there are no current plans to replace her.Oliver Sims…

After much speculation it’s finally been announced that The xx guitarist Baria Quereshi has left the band.Last month the band postponed a number of dates due to exhaustion, rumours spread...For all the latest indie music news and views head over to Indiescreet.com
As an update to my earlier post about Baria Qureshi, The xx’s guitarist, possibly dropping out because of exhaustion...well she did. It’s over, it’s trio time from here on out, but the good news is the band and the tour goes on. Feel better? Relieved even? Good, now let’s continue about our business, I think someone’s coming.
On your side of the Atlantic, it was Steve Lamacq I believe who first tipped the xx as one of the bands to make waves in 2009. On this side, Pitchfork sang the praises of the band’s debut album in late summer, practically ensuring that hype would be following the band around wherever they [...]
words: Jamie Miltonoriginally scribed for gigwise.comWhen The xx first emerged, a lot of the press began to fall head over heels in love with the vocals above the beats, the minimalism, the vital components of what makes the self-titled debut so irresistibly dense and inventive. Oliver Sim and Romy Madley-Croft were the voices in question [...]
We were surprised to see so many people at the Javelin gig that played out just before The XX at the Mercury Lounge but really, it was nothing compared to the amount of faces present right now. Squeezed within an inch of our lives against the right of the stage, we fumble awkwardly back and forth along the front of the venue, snapping shots before becoming firmly wedged into place right in-fron...
Date Released: August 17, 2009Album Genre: IndieAlbum Rating: 9/10Sounds Like: ?I've been holding off for a while now reviewing this album. I keep on expecting more surprises, and definitely not making the same mistake I made for The Stroke's First Impressions of Earth where I judged the album right off the bat. A couple months later, my feelings towards the album changed completely from irri...
The XX have been touring like mad, including a whirlwind CMJ schedule... given that the group is comprising of 20-year-olds who don't see all that much of the sun, some fatigue was inevitable. That inevitability finally reared its ugly head last night, as Baria Queresh (far right in photo), the group's guitarist, has taken some sort of hiatus or break after the band's extremely busy CMJ weee...
Let me begin this by saying that I'm not normally a person that actively seeks out "soulful" music. Actually, I tend to run more toward the cold and clinical, but that's just me.This time though, I gotta admit, I'm all in. The XX is worthy of the hype. There's something magical in the way the male and female vocls slither and slide over each other as the spare rhytms roll by. Without that slight...

.From South London The XX emerge soaked in the areas love for R&B but playing skeletal guitar lines over crisp beats with whispered, intertwining vocals. Interesting.... .www.myspace.com/thexx.
