The Wrens' Meandowlands came out in 2003 and it remains a favorite of mine. Now the group is at work on a follow-up. They claim it will be out before the end of the year but with these guys, you never know. They're into making the best music they can make, not meeting someone's deadline. There's a great interview with them over at Stereogum where this video is from. You have to listen to this t...

VIA the bands blog: we did finally got together, all four of us, in the basement, first time in about 10 years. And we'd asked our friends Joe Centeno, formerly of the band Plug Spark Sanjay, and Patrick Glennon to take some video & photos, respectively. We were really just expecting Joe to edit together footage of [...]

Well if you haven't heard it yet here it is in all it's raw glory. A new song by the wrens that they made up right on the spot. Well sort of. Apparently Kevin demo'd it for something. Showed the guy the chords on a piece of paper and they whipped it out. Now no pressure but it helped that the had some of best engineers on the planet to mix it at LIVE Abbey Road! They also happen to be pretty go...

Not sure how much of a serious "last show" this really was, but indie rock vets The Wrens played Emo's in Austin on July 21 and referred to it as their "graduation" at the end of 4 years of touring off of "The Meadowlands." They seemed to be having too much fun to convince me they actually plan to stop playing, but I figured I better catch it just in case. Bassist/singer Kevin Whelan must be ...

NAME : The Wrens PRGRESS REPORT : Recording the followup to The Meadowlands at bassist Kevin Whelan's home studio in Teaneck, New Jersey. We usually like to catch bands after they've been in the studio for a while, or when they've just left it. But we are so excited to hear that New Jersey's Wrens were finally back in the studio that we wanted to catch up with them early into their recording pro...

If you’re a wrens fan you know they rarely tour, especially outside of the nyc/jersey area. So when the news of them playing the black cat came out today, part of me got all giddy…that is until i realized i am going to see springsteen that night. CRAP! Hopefully some of you [...]

They wrote on their new site about it all: The new song "Pulled Fences": Secondly, we have a new song just released last Thursday, "Pulled Fences", that we recorded live at Abbey [...]

The Wrens. Oh god... this band. I love them. In all seriousness, I have a google alert set up for "the wrens," which means i know far more about that bird species than anyone who is writing a music blog really needs to know. But I have been waiting and waiting and waiting - as have ALL of their fans - for the band to put out some new material. And tonight my inbox bliped or ding-ed or whatever ...

If you happened to check The Wrens website on a daily basis then yesterday you would've realised a distinct change in the way things looked. The "change" is basically a new front page with a new song and some updated information on the band.
