Last night I had the immense pleasure of enjoying the company of The Black Angels and while they were stupendous, I was more thrilled by the opener, The Warlocks. I'm not saying they were better than The Black Angels, mind you. But I already knew I liked The Black Angels. And how great is it to walk away from a show with a new discovery, with a new music crush? Nirvana, IMO.If you are a fan ...

Each month, HT Contributor Ben Wiser will take a closer look at notable performances of Dark Star. If you have any favorite Stars you would like him to cover, send the date over to darkstarstories@yahoo.comLast month I touched on the great Halloween night Dark Star from the Oakland Coliseum Arena back in 1991. That was the night Ken Kesey showed up and delivered his eulogy to Bill Graham. He re...
The Warlocks have had a myriad of line-up changes over the years. For ‘The Mirror Explodes’ the band were a five piece, consisting of Bobby Hecksher (vocals, guitars, keys), John Christian Rees (guitar), Ryan Mcbride (Guitar), Jana Suzanne Risher (Bass) and Bob Mustachio (Drums) – Hecksher being the only constant party in this transient group [...]
Rather then going to see Phish in Harford I decided to try something new and see the Warlocks, despite hearing the occasional Phish jeer in my direction from either one of the musicians. I felt that there was something authentic and original which I and many others like me had been closed off to. Just like 100 shitty jambands started to give them a bad name, the pop and talentless indie rock...
Several years ago my brother got it in his head that it would be a good idea to take my dad to see a run of outdoor Grateful Dead shows. My dad, who looks, acts and talks like a cop, decided that this would be a fine opportunity to do a little camping, as well as spend some quality time with his youngest son, so in Deadest fashion, they headed on down the road. Sorting out what happened after...

The Warlocks have got a new record coming out in June and so they've officially booked in a UK tour for July to promote the release. The record goes by the name The Mirror Explodes and due to hit shelves on June 15th on TeePee Records.
MP3: The Warlocks - "Red Camera" from The Mirror Explodes, out May 19 on Tee Pee Records. This is a slow-burning bum trip of a jam. I've always respected Bobby Hecksher, but I prefer the Warlocks when they're making feel-good...
