Unlike many of you I can say I have 3 favorite bands. In order.1- Velvet Underground2- Sonic Youth3- The FallAfter that I move into the genre which would be known as Jazz. I haven't made up my mind yet on the tops in that group. JJ Johnson is out in front with Mingus and Gillespie hot on his heels.Released in 1970 'Loaded' was the last album the Velvets would bang out in the studio. 'Loaded' g...

It must be Rock And Roll Wednesday. The "turn it up!" kids are out on the street: too tall, too skinny, too much black, too many bangles, too much hair styling, all rocking the music on their t-shirts. In five minutes of walking I see:Sonic Youth logoT-Rex logoA Sounds magazine cover from 1976 featuring Thin LizzyFirst Joy Division cover (a day not seeing that is a day you spend at home)Led Zep...

...and a little bit of blood. That's what I think of whenever I hear The Velvet Underground's "I'm Sticking With You". I'm talking about my favorite scene from "Morvern Callar," a movie adapted from a novel by Scottish writer Alan Warner. The 1995 film stars Samantha Morton as the title character, an odd lass who steals her boyfriend's funeral money after he commits suicide. Watch this clip of ...

The Velvet Underground with Nico in Columbus, Ohio on November 4, 1966. (And some people reckon nothing happens in Columbus.) It was a toss-up on which track to post but I settled on “Femme Fatale” for the verve with which the band support Nico’s wonderful monotone. Judging by the applause at the end, the patrons of Columbus had some trouble digging the VU. As a reward the band played “The

Due to my own lack of planning, I was a bit cash poor this week. But i wasn't going to let a simple thing like having no money ruin my last weekend in Hollywood. So I did what any good bohemian would do...I stashed away 3 beers on my person. Two in the pockets of my jeans, and one in the small of my back. Had to be done. I only had two more nights to say I was a Hollywood resident...i wasn't go...

I just discovered mp3 of the holy grail for Velvet Underground fans, The Norman Dolph Acetate that was bought by a vinyl enthusiast for 25 cents. They're not the highest quality fidelity wise but for historical purposes these tracks are essential for any V.U. fanatic. I do suggest you get a little bit lifted while listening to these songs. I chose this different take of I'm Waiting for the Man ...

The Velvet Underground's "After Hours" and "Run, Run, Run".Moe's your g...

Everybody will be famous for 15 minutes. As i clicked over to CNN to make sure that we haven't illegally invaded any other countries since I last checked, i couldn't help but to notice their 'EXCLUSIVE' interview with the 'stylist' who shaved Britney's head.Speaking of heads, mine hurts...and speaking of Andy Warhol, I will let Lou Reed take you the rest of the way home with what I consider to ...

I've always loved this song. I chose this final take of Venus in Furs because of the way the John Cale's violin is the focal point of the instrumentation. Venus in Furs always had this sensual and sinister vibe, even more so in this unrelased version.
