These lyrics and this song say it all for me today... This is my last post for a little while, a long while, no time, an endless time as I fly to Bangkok and onto NongKhai near the border of Laos/Thailand this morning...I dont know what awaits me at NongKhai and yep I am a little nervous, a lot excited and filled with an overwhelming feeling that this is exactly what i should be doing right now...
Another day, another discovery...I can't believe I have never heard this band before. It was love at first listen though, excuse me now...i have to go acquire every Veils song that I can find...love does strange things to a man
I am sure I have posted on these guys before, but I have been listening to their record 'Nux Vomica' all day and had to share again...I love the shakiness in his voice
Ever get an album...like it, then for whatever reason totally but it on the backburner? I think, in my defense, I found the Veils and this cd 'Nux Vomica' when I was in the midst of an amazing music acquisition spree...Anyway, thanks to the strange and mysterious power of 'the shuffle' I have spent all day with this record...incredible! This tune came on and I haven't looked back for hours...
.The Veils are a New Zealand band based in London, fronted by lead singer & songwriter, Finn Andrews. The Veils sound has been likened to artists as diverse as Jeff Buckley, The Birthday Party, The Smiths & Joy Division. Their live shows have become famed for their emotional intensity and Finn's often scarily possessed stage presence.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_VeilsSee a full concert; htt...
Can I just mention that Finn Andrews of The Veils has the sexiest voice I've yet to hear. I get hot flashes when I here his sexy scratchy croon on the track Jesus for the Jugular off of Nux Vomica. And if I were into ladies, Feist would be my number one gal.
(Originally published on GodIsInTheTVzine.co.uk, QOOB.TV)The story that links me to The Veils is just hours-old and I will let you find out about it as it came up during the chat I had with Finn Andrews and Sophia Burns in the dressing room of Dingwalls, in Camden, last 15th of April for the first date of their tour and launch party for their third studio album “Sun Gangs”, out on 6th April. As
The Veils will touch down in America for a one month tour this summer. The cross country affair kicks off in N.Y on June 7th and winds down in L.A on the 29th. Although it was released last year overseas, their most recent album Nux Vomica dropped in the U.S a few weeks ago. The Veils are known for their emotionally charged performances, so you wont want to miss this.*Tour Dates*06/07 - New Yor...
I think the advertisement for the Michael Stipe interview that keeps popping up on this site subconsciously influenced me to post this cover of "Drive" by the Veils.I really like it but nothing could come close to the original R.E.M. version. The video for their song "Advice for Young Mothers To Be" is also nice/ I don't think they like babies very much though.
What is up with foreign fondness for Bruce Springsteen's "State Trooper"? You know how few shows I go to these days (that's very few, if you don't know) and I've recently seen two artists (Jarvis Cocker and tonight the Veils) cover this song. I kind of don't get it. It's very dark and spooky, yes, and both did a good job — I'm certainly not one to argue with any well-earned Springsteen apprecia.
The Veils have announced the release of their third studio album. Sun Gangs will be available on April 7th.The band is currently streaming some of the new tracks over at their Myspace page, while Stereogum has posted an MP3 for the track "Killed By The Boom" here. The Veils' websiteThe Veils' Myspace
Directed by Sean Gratton from the album, Sun Gangs.Three weeks after the release of Sun Gangs in April 2009, Henning Dietz(drummer), left the band after the birth of his daughter. Disturbing images fill this faux news report style video. The interweaving between the lyrics and the stock footage is done quite well. And some of the clips are disturbing, those with weak stomachs beware. At the end...
Just wondering if anyone knows when the Veils most recent album "Nux Vomica" will be released in the US because I've been checkin Amazon and the only one that's for sale is the import and as much as I like the Veils, I don't feel like paying $35.00 for the CD...
