(As I do every year, I'll devote this week to posting some year-end thoughts, musical and otherwise, from some friends of mine. My own thing will no doubt go up sometime in the early part of January. In the meantime, my year-end mixes are still there for the taking, btw.) ------------ The following four guys are enrolled in the same graduate program as yours truly. That's one thing. More i...
I feel like my lung are full of gross. Being this flu-ey is ruining my life. Especially since I just wanted to have a REALLY good weekend partying in Southampton and not sleeping and dancing and singing karaoke. OK, so I struggled through it all and did sing some karaoke, but really, I just wanted to be in bed with someone stroking my hair and pitying me.This weekend I have realised that The Un...
i really wish the unicorns would reunite. islands are very good and all, but they just arent the unicorns. i remember when WWCOHWWG? first came out; it was unlike anything id ever heard. i also remember that they had a little side project called "The 'Cornn Gang" or something to that extent, i was never able to find any of that material though. if you might happen to know where i could, please let
So today I was listening to the Islands for the first time and noticed an uncanny simialrity to the Unicorns... I think mostly it was the vocals and timely (or untimely) progression of instrumentals. Islands are forever...but I loved the Unicorns...how can you not after watching them....enjoy...and the following if you really are a unicorn fan, you either get this or not, i love it.
I just finished watching this film called Manic (thanks IFC) and i am in a momentary state of shock. It was so intense. It was shot to appear almost like a documentary which made the characters appear so personal. I was intrigued by the first few moments of the film and i became so drawn in and attached to the characters i was literally withholding sobs and shouts during the most drama...

You see, the Unicorns were from Montreal and according to all the French people I polled† for this post, French-Canadians speak an inferior form of French. To immortalize a French-Canadian song in the truest form of the French [...]
Well, we're halfway through the week, folks. Do you know what that means?? It's time for another installment of Wussy Wednesday! Today I am posting a song by a band that came up on shuffle on my iPod this morning: "I Was Born a Unicorn" by The Unicorns, off of their album Who Will Cut Our Hair When We're Gone? Sure haven't heard this in a while….It's so weird that I would like this band, bec.
Imagine the pre-Islands band The Unicorns in all their glory; that album, Who Will Cut Our Hair When We’re Gone. Now think of their triumphant return, matured a decade and now female-fronted. The songs are no longer bizarre and there’s been a complete turnaround when it comes to their accessibility to the general public. Imagine that, added with a newfound influence by, say, Fiery Furnaces,
