Portland, Oregon's The Thermals have a new album coming out April 7th on Kill Rock Stars. They released the sing-a-long power-pop title track this week. The bouncy Portland trio recently gave us a Progress Report about their forthcoming forth album Now We Can See that included a look at the album art, insights from ever caffeinated Hutch Harris, and a listen to the demo of Now 's "When I Was Afraid." Adding to our Thermals stockpile, now we can hear the completed title track, a quick and catchy pop anthem you ought to be singing along to befor...
Talking to some of my friends and family about my impending move to California is sometimes like banging my head up against a wall. They just can't imagine that are other ways to live your life that don't entail minivans and bingo nights. It is is insanely frustrating to talk in circles about why I am doing this...the ones who get it, totally get it...but those who don't think I am driving off ...
I have lost track, but exactly how many hate speech spewing, ultra conservative, bible thumping, homophobic republicans turned out to be gay this year? 20 or so by my count...and the year isn't over...
As i checked my calendar I realized that the Hold Steady/Thermals double bill that I am going to is on March 17th...St Patrick's Day...It will be be bad. But bad in the best sorta way,Now allow me to rock you with the song that i think was the best opening track on any album in 2006...did you hear that Grammy's? Now there is a category for ya!!
So excited for the big show tomorrow night. I am looking forward to seeing the Hold Steady, but i CAN NOT WAIT to see the Thermals. And I finally get to see my girlfriend in real life ;-)Kathey FosterOh wait...that is Kathy Foster, clerical assistant....stupid google, let me try this again!Kathy Foster, awesome bass playerMuch better....now here's your future:
This is the first album that I bought becuase of a year end list write-up...and it is amazing!! It puts organized religion right in its crosshairs and pulls the trigger...again and again and again...just a superb record!!And yes I will be marrying the bass player....And yes that was Colin from the Decemberists making a brief cameo...but don't blink, you will miss him!
Really, I'm just wasting time waiting for Mog 2.0 and thought I'd entertain you with some pictures from the show last Thursday, which by the way, RAWKED. I wasn't as fortunate as Blair, who got to see them with The Hold Steady, but I'll take what I can get. It was pretty sweet, regardless.
I've always liked the studio version of The Thermals' "A Pillar of Salt," check out this live version. What do you think?I know it says this is off The Body, The Blood, The Machine but it isn't, this is off a live album: Live [at the Echoplex December 7th, 2007]

I have done at lest a months worth of drinking and going out this week, and I would have very nice video of The Thermals, The Dex Romweber Duo, and The Detroit Cobras for you if Youtube would stop being such a bitch and send me my damned confirmation e-mail, but it's ok. Because I saw some of my favorite bands this week (seeing bands I've been trying to see for ages has been a pattern lately) ...
Caught The Thermals live a few weeks back for the first time with my good buddy, who is now a 7 time Jeopardy Champion! Although he knew he had already raked in over 150k, he somehow didn't say a word. Apparently, if you tell anyone before the show airs, Trebek tracks you down and kills you and your entire family. I should have known he won since he was so damn happy at the show, but then again...
