All Music GuideThere's no denying that Second Coming is a bit of a letdown. None of the songs are quite as strong as the best on their debut, but there is plenty of good music on the band's much-delayed second record. The Stone Roses create a dense tapestry of interweaving guitars and pulsing bass grooves. Ian Brown growls a little more than before, but he isn't the center of the music; John Squire's endlessly colorful riffs are. It's clear that Squire has been listening to a bit of hard rock, particularly Led Zeppelin. While the songs occasionally take a back seat to the grooves, several tracks -- "Ten Storey Love Song," "Begging You," "Tightrope," "How Do You Sleep," and "Love Spreads" -- rank as true classics. It might not be the long-awaited masterpiece it was rumored to be, but Second Coming is a fine sophomore effort.

You've got to have this one in your head too Elms.. a restatement of the manifesto that has had to last us... i got the Ian Brown solo stuff,and "Seahorses" single..played em a few times.."Seahorses" ,John Squire's band,only single i heard "Love is the Law" has his trademark guitar "wiggle" all over it like this..best bit..i think it's a regular,but brilliantly played "hammer-on / hammer off"...

Well, it's only taken me about 5 blog posts to get around to my first Stone Roses post :) I'm de-flowering my blog! (Actually, I'm surprised I haven't written about U2 yet... though no one here yet knows, and my mog has not yet revealed that I'm a die-hard U2 fan...)I'm a fairly recent convert to the Roses, and I've fallen mighty hard for them.
