The Sonics were a member of the wave of Pacific Northwest American garage rock groups in the early and mid-1960s, pioneered by The Kingsmen and The Wailers . Among The Sonics' other contemporaries were The Drastics, The Regents, and Paul Revere & the Raiders. The origin of garage rock. Everythign from the Ramones to The Oblivions owe a debt to The Sonics. Known to punch holes in their speakers and rip the soundproofing off of studio walls "to get a liver sound".
