All Music GuideBest, Vol. 2 fills in the gaps from the first volume, but like its predecessor, it lacks cohesion or a sense of what made the Smiths important. Many great songs are included, but, ultimately, it doesn't quite do justice to the legacy of Britain's most important band of the '80s. Singles remains a better introductory compilation, even if the two Best volumes do include songs missing from that single-disc overview.
