Portland based rockers, The Shins released their second single from their third album, ??Wincing the Night Away?? (Sub Pop) Monday. "Australia" will be available on 7" and on CD in the UK. ??Wincing the Night Away??, has been dubbed the most experimental Shins album yet. The tracks range from hip-hop loops to psychedelic Hawaiian folk. The album is also considerably longer than The Shins' past ...
Every once in awhile, whether it's a new song or a song I used to love and just rediscovered, I have a musical epiphany of sorts. Sometimes a song just couldn't be more perfect for the moment and it makes you feel invincible. It's an amazing feeling. I only wish I could hold onto it a little longer.
As promised, here is a link to that shins music video i worked on a couple of weeks back. "Via Pitchfork.":http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/page/forkcast/42318-the-shins-australiaPitchfork also posted a news story about my book today. This is one of my all-time favorite songs, ever. Yes, my favorite band is Death Cab for Cutie, and yes, most of my favorite songs are by them. That being said, I absolutely love this song. It's so catchy and energetic, and I love the little random thing before the opening ("Time to put zee earphones on!" "NO!").Anyway, I haven't heard a great amount of The Shins, but it seems to me that their fo...
Now, before I begin my mog about The Shins's set at Lollapalooza you have to remember that I saw them nearly six months ago, far removed from the current hype surrounding the release of their next album, "Wincing the Night Away." Of all of the bands I was to see they were the one I anticipated most. At the time, the ability to see them play seemed like an incredible treat. I was largely unaw...
Bumpbumpbumpclickclick and the train rolls out of Penn Station. I am huddled against the window with my feet curled under me. I am facing backwards as the car lurches forward. I have the seat to myself. I make a muttering phone call, put the earpieces in, and fire up the iPod. James Mercer's voice gallops alongside the train through the bog and warehouse parking lots as the landscape pushes New...
instead of a human?my ex and i once made up codes and secret passwordsq and a type things if we ever suspected that our mate had been replaced by a robotic alien prepared to take over the planet, one musician at a time.i have too many blogs.i tend to post a lot over on my lj account because i know most of the people who read it. i know because i have little robotic tools that track who reads th...
A first listen of The Shins, addictively catchy tune "Australia" leads one to believe this is the happiest, most go lucky tune on the planet. It is the musical equivilant to laffy taffy. So sweet, so damn good, it just hits the spot.A second listen and you realize the song is about a stripper. Yeah, yeah, there's been debate on the actual meaning of the song. Some say it's James Mercer's own in...
Just in case you don't already have list fatigue, Blender has compiled 25 reasons to love 2007.Number 7 is the Shins next album 'Wincing the Night Away' - which is phenomenally good, and comes out in two weeks. Some of the other selections were pretty dubious... does the world really need another Fountain's of Wayne or Avril Lavigne album? You can hear the Shins performing my favorite song off o...

Even thought they're no longer a well-kept secret, the Shins continue to evolve their jangly style of earnest music on their next album - Wincing the Night Away. It's sooo good, and manages to take a huge step forward, much like Chutes too Narrow was to Oh, Inverted World. They've been touring the West Coast with some of the news songs and it looks like they play one more in Portland on the 13t...

Can you explain the picture above? We sure cant… and neither can we explain why all these songs are grouped into one post.May the randomness continue! Here at The Music Ninja we are all about variety, bringing music from all types of genres. I was originally going to name it Random Music Fridays but I [...]
Just do me a favor and don't judge me by what I download. I'm a DJ...I get stuff I sometimes don't really care for. Like Toby Keith for example. Ack.I did, however, complete my Shins collection recently, so that's something good. And yeah....til next time...
