Every once in awhile, whether it's a new song or a song I used to love and just rediscovered, I have a musical epiphany of sorts. Sometimes a song just couldn't be more perfect for the moment and it makes you feel invincible. It's an amazing feeling. I only wish I could hold onto it a little longer.
A first listen of The Shins, addictively catchy tune "Australia" leads one to believe this is the happiest, most go lucky tune on the planet. It is the musical equivilant to laffy taffy. So sweet, so damn good, it just hits the spot. A second listen and you realize the song is about a stripper. Yeah, yeah, there's been debate on the actual meaning of the song. Some say it's James Mercer's own insecurities about feeling like a less than stellar artist...other's grasp at t... MORE
This is one of my all-time favorite songs, ever. Yes, my favorite band is Death Cab for Cutie, and yes, most of my favorite songs are by them. That being said, I absolutely love this song. It's so catchy and energetic, and I love the little random thing before the opening ("Time to put zee earphones on!" "NO!").Anyway, I haven't heard a great amount of The Shins, but it seems to me that their forte is writing these kind of really energetic, great to drive to, upbeat-soundin... MORE
Portland based rockers, The Shins released their second single from their third album, Wincing the Night Away (Sub Pop) Monday. "Australia" will be available on 7" and on CD in the UK. The album is also considerably longer than The Shins' past two. The band also put together a video for "Australia". Enjoy! The bans i... MORE
Just do me a favor and don't judge me by what I download. I'm a DJ...I get stuff I sometimes don't really care for. Like Toby Keith for example. Ack.
I did, however, complete my Shins collection recently, so that's something good.
And yeah....til next time...

Bumpbumpbumpclickclick and the train rolls out of Penn Station. I am huddled against the window with my feet curled under me. I am facing backwards as the car lurches forward. I have the seat to myself. I make a muttering phone call, put the earpieces in, and fire up the iPod. James Mercer's voice gallops alongside the train through the bog and warehouse parking lots as the landscape pushes New York into the ocean. I'm going somewhere, I decide.
So is it an addiction if in like one week you buy 4-5 cds and would gladly buy more? I don't care. I am gonna be on a long drive on friday and need the tunes: so thank you for these cds:
The Shins - Wincing the Night Away
Dustin Kensrue - Please Come Home
Augustana - All the Stars and Boulevards
