Sharon Shy talks about The Ropes

Earlier this week, Sharon Shy of The Ropes took a few minutes to talk with me about The Ropes and their new EP, Be My Gun.Sonic Dissonance: With "What They Do For Fun," just coming out last year, why did you decide to follow it up with an EP so quickly? Sharon Shy: We aren't stuck to a release schedule or a product cycle. These are songs that we felt strongly about and we wanted to release this...

Review - The Ropes - Be My Gun EP

Be My Gun is three overall solid songs. With the title track leading the way through a powerful riff and bass combo, the disc's highlight was very worthy of it's placement on the short EP. Add in "Too Cool To Love" and you're well on your way to a strong even unforgettable EP. "Too Cool To Love" again features a strong base and drumline with mysterious lyrics from vocalist Sharon Shy.Unfortunat...

The Ropes - Be My Gun

The Ropes is a NYC based duo composed of vocalist/bassist Sharon Shy and multi-instrumentalist Toppy (he plays drums with a guitar around his neck). The music was described to me as comparable to The Knife and the Chromatics. A lot girl/guy duos' music seems to click with me. Six dudes sitting in a studio kicking around ideas can result in a bunch of clashing ideas and unrealized sonic gems bu...

[VIDEO] The Ropes - Clubs in Europe Forever Video
6 months ago

The Ropes have put together a soft and slightly haunting video for their single ”Clubs in Europe Forever.” The song has a simple beat and slowly shifting synths which make the whole production kind of catchy. Filmed in Brooklyn in a space strangely reminiscent of some Melophobes’ summer living quarters, I’ve got to say I think they did a pretty good job.

It’s been a great week for shufflin’ fun with a bunch of tracks returning from the depths of the hard drive! Crackers have included Tessie (The Dropkick Murphys), Somebody (Slightly Stoopid), Sunny Hours (Long Beach Dub All Stars), California Sun (Ramones) and Don’t Go Now (Ratcat). But the biggest discovery of the week comes from within MOG: The Ropes. THE ROPES‘ upcoming EP has a great title track, although I’m not sure what about the correlations between the topics of the song and clubs in Europe. I think what they’re trying to say is that the duo will be around a long time and so will human atrocities.MP3: The Ropes - Clubs in Europe [...]

The Ropes eyeing Clubs in Europe Forever

Filmed by Andi Krop and The Ropes from the EP, The Clubs in Europe Forever. The Ropes is a two member band consisting of Shy and Top. Vocalist Sharron Shy's favorite drink is water, she writes her own songs and Sharon Shy is her real name. Multi-instrumentalist Top's eyes are blue or according to Photoshop #55717C.Video looks like a subliminal propaganda film with the flashing words, some that y...

The Ropes "Be My Gun"

Well, I got those MP3 faster than I thought and thank God. Yesterday The Ropes released latest Ep called "Be My Gun" a mesmerizing work that brings back the glory of the Indie Rock, their sound mixes drums, guitars, and synths, which reminds me of kind of music that Californians used to make and I fell in love back a few years back and now wonder why would anyone would stop making such an amaz...
