Here you'll find an interview with Nathan Jerde, drummer for the Ponys. Please excuse the terrible sound quality; Lacking proper wiring, I had to hold my voice recorder up to my cell phone. You'll see the transcript of this interview in Friday's Chicago Maroon, along with a review of the Ponys new album, Turn the Lights Out.
THE PONYS – TURN THE LIGHTS OUT (2007)RATINGAgreed, there’s nothing unique about The Ponys’ sparse lo-fi sound, but what the Chicago four piece have in spades is an ability to use the obvious references and influences to produce music that retains enough raw edged sincerity to cut through the obvious comparisons, and third album “Turn The Lights Out” is a solid follow up to 2005’s “C
Good Evening, Moggers! It's been a while. Life has been interesting, espescially from a musical perspective. A friend of mine gave me tons of post-rock and indie-pop lately, which I still have to really sift through. So far though, I really enjoy Broken Social Scene, Explosions in the Sky, and The Shins. Though tonight, my focus is my most recent actual purchase: The Pony's Turn The Lights...
As promised, here's my review of The Pony's Turn the Light s Out, to be published in the Maroon March 30th:Post-punk revival is currently dominating alternative rock, and no post-punk revivalist band right now is smarter than The Ponys. With their third album, the magnificent Turn the Lights Out, The Ponys have joined the ranks of the Big Black, Smashing Pumpkins and Liz Phair as one of the gia...

While I'm not at liberty to review it yet, suffice to say it has all I've been listening to as of late, and I'll be suprised if it's not one of my favorite albums of the year come December '07. It has classic written all over it.

But fortunately I work at home, where I can be found with the volume of my stereo cranked to 11 and a non-stop parade of tunes (you know my m.o., good music only) keeping me company. Every so often I come across a song that I just can't...
The Pony's have been a fave of mine since I heard their Jim Diamond-produced debut, 2003's Laced With Romance. The group has signed to Matador, and the third album, Turn The Lights Out, will be released March 20. Meanwhile check out this MP3 of "Double Vision," which will be on the new album:http://www.matadorrecords.com/the_ponys/music.html
