Seems every Hip Hop Thursday has me posting from an airport these days Last week had me sitting on the runway for 5 hours...sigh...if I never see a plane again. On my iPod I find "Labcabincalifornia" by the Pharcyde. Listening to this album from start to end reminds me of the tremendous innovative and fun sound the Pharcyde brought and lightens my spirit while getting me in a groove. Love that shit, wish they would keep bringing it. Note that this video was sho... MORE

We used to drive around Downingtown bumping Bizarre Ride II. When I say bumping, I don't mean it by any "it's what the kids are saying" way. We were literally bumping around in one of our shitty cars, me with my hot Rockford Fosgate base box jury rigged into the fuse box of my Chevy Nova, connected on the other end to some shitty tape deck.
I had been introduced to this album by a graffiti kid in my school, and just the fact that it was different than the eras "gangs... MORE

I can bring hip-hop up to many people my age or older and they'll all say the same thing: "I like hip-hop, but only the stuff from 10 years ago and prior..." or something similar... What happened to hip-hop? What happened to smooth moody beats with dark lyrics? When did the voice of hip-hop get limited only to people who wanna create the latest dance move or catch phrase, salted with some references to sex, drugs, and violence? Is there any common thread here with... MORE

It's 10:30 here and I've been home about 30 minutes. I've been awake since 5 a.m. and I look it, no matter what the homeless men downtown told me. I come and I get steps away from bed and then it hit me- it's Thursday. You can't go to bed. Two weeks ago you whined like a bitch about not keeping hip-hop night alive. And you didn't post last week. Don't be a chump- get your ass downstairs to your laptop and do your damn duty. I checked Pharcyde's widget and I have a hard t... MORE

I am sure at some point in your musical journey you have seen at least one thing by Spike Jonze. It may have been a skateboard video like Yeah Right!, a movie like Being John Malkovich or one of the many music videos he has produced over the years. I recently came across his list of credits, and was amazed at how much he has done. You can check it out here, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spike_Jonze There is a DVD out there with all of the videos he produced and if you can fi... MORE

Okay fellow Moggers, this is a question I've had for years, and this morning I was wandering around the MOG HQ asking everybody I ran into, and Kate was like, "dude, you should make a post."
And I was like, "duh".
So can you help me out? Here's the quandary:
Okay, please direct your mp3 player (or, um, CD player I guess) to The Pharcyde's Bizarre Ride II, track 12-- Passin' Me By. The lyric in question is near the end of the song:
From a distance I

So, the Song of the (bleep) Week for THIS week is none other than the Pharcyde's "Passing Me By" Man, this song is just good all around. I love the beat, a concept that everyone can be down with, and the lyrics. So, so dope. I don't know what to say except "Damn." Usually, I'd have a long story to go with why I love this song so much, but as a perpetually single black man, there are too many stories to tell, so instead, I'll just give you the video and the lyrics.... I saw the Pharcyde last night and it was awesome. I saw them 11 years and two members ago, at Lollapalooza. Frankly, I wasn't expecting much. I didn't like Plain Rap and lost track of them after that... It was so good that the backpackers didn't get on my nerves.... MORE
