My first package from Splendid (the late "we review everything" website) was pretty awful...but it did contain the pAper chAse's Cntrl-Alt-Del-U, an abrasive, off-kilter, fiercely intelligent piece of noise punk that was, as it turned out, pretty far from the band's best. Now three-four records later, Congleton and crew are back with a really good one called Now You Are One of Us, an anxiety a...

For those that need to be given nightmares...

I have no idea why I love this album so much. It's a creepy album to listen to, like the deranged songs of a mental patient. I'm guessing it's all those scary movie that I watched when I was little when I wasn't supposed to, but my older brothers were watching them on HBO so I guess it's partly their fault.

I have something to say... "We Know Where You Sleep"

My brother always gives me grief for not posting more, but I am very much the procrastinator and almost manic/depressive in my actions in that I post a lot some weeks and then not at all for over a month. This may explain why I really dig this band, The Paper Chase.I was in the mood to listen to some rock that was beyond just mainstream and a little rough around the edges like Killdozer, The Je...

The Paper Chase - Someday All This Could Be Yours (Vol. 1)

Several albums in (six if you include the soundtrack they did) we find The Paper Chase exploring a wider world than one man's neurosis, and this could be the album that propels The Paper Chase towards a larger audience.

The Paper Chase: Someday This Could All Be Yours, Vol. 1 (Reviews)

John Congleton and Co's fifth full-length release removes the dark shawl of nihilism from the shoulders of the individual and tosses it instead over humanity at large. The Paper Chase have always revelled in their own sinister side. I say "side" as if there is a hidden underbelly of sunshine, but there is scant light to balance out the caustic shadow cast by the dead bodies, dead relationships, ...

The Paper Chase, led by music producer John Congleton, are back with a new record entitled Someday This Could All Be Yours, Vol 1, the band's fifth full-length effort and the first of a two-part series which will be completed next year. The group is known for their avant-garde hardcore sound that combines a wealth of disparate influences in a noisy, messy mix, putting the band in a league all t...

If Dallas-based The Paper Chase, or “the pAper chAse” as they often refer to themselves as, ever wanted to create a film score then they could quite easily submit their latest album ‘Someday This Could All Be Yours (Part 1)’.The film that they would score would have to be directed by Darren Aronofsky; the plot [...]

Spoiler alert, when SubEx puts out its best albums of 2009 list next month you can most certainly expect Paper Chase's tour de force Someday This Could All Be Yours, Vol. 1 to be holding down a spot in the top 5; and not just of local releases either, John Congleton and Co. have seriously advanced our sonic pallates exponentially. Furthermore, Congleton's solo acoustic performance at Dan's Silv...
