in approximately 165 different hip-hop and rap tracks of varying quality, this Gamble/Huff/Jackson Philly classic from 1974 appears not to have been posted before. The O'Jays seem to have failed the audition at Orwell's Ministry of Truth. they made some wonderful records in the mid-seventies, but have long since dropped off the radar. this song conjures up some really strong feelings for me. growing up in new york. summertime as a kid. not sure why, as i was probably 5 or 6 years old when this came out. perhaps there was mental osmosis whilst older brother & sister watched soultrain.
