Despite the bassline being used

(20)

in approximately 165 different hip-hop and rap tracks of varying quality, this Gamble/Huff/Jackson Philly classic from 1974 appears not to have been posted before. The O'Jays seem to have failed the audition at Orwell's Ministry of Truth. they made some wonderful records in the mid-seventies, but have long since dropped off the radar. This is still fantabulosa tuneage

Blog post image preview ...you might not know the guys in the picture above by face but if you're on here, then you've certainly heard their music. They're the producers Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff who produced a grip of great soul albums from the 60s on into the 70s...the list is long but to name a few, they've sat behind the boards for groups like The Soul Survivors ("Expressway to Your Heart"), The Jacksons ("Show You the Way to Go"), Bunny Sigler ("Love Train") and Dusty Springfield ("Silly, S... Funky Friday with the O'Jays

(8)

Largely forgotten now, they were HUGE in the early Seventies. This is off of their 1975 LP "Survival" - the backing band are MFSB (Ronnie Baker on bassism and Earl Young on the drummings), and it's written by Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff, from which you might just be able to guess that this was a Philadelphia sound

Blog post image preview ..."doesn't mean they're not after you," as the old adage goes...I've been feeling the soul cuts about this time every night for some reason...no need to dive too deeply into this jam, it's the title track off of the LP Back Stabbers which also held the super-solid "Love Train" and "992 Arguments"...it's a classic that you don't hear much about now " but they blew up because of it ...Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff were behind the mixing console, the O'jays were in the booth, s... Blog post image preview www.lanier2.imeem.com The O'Jays were one of Philadelphia soul's most popular and long-lived outfits, rivaled only by the Spinners as soul's greatest vocal group of the '70s. In their prime, the O'Jays' recordings epitomized the Philly soul sound: smooth, rich harmonies backed by elaborate arrangements, lush strings, and a touch of contemporary funk. They worked extensively with the legendary production/songwriting team of Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff, becoming the flagship ... MORE

can you tell i'm going through a bit of a phase? maybe global warming and state-of-the-nation's got me hammering for a hunk of soul this song conjures up some really strong feelings for me. growing up in new york. summertime as a kid. not sure why, as i was probably 5 or 6 years old when this came out. perhaps there was mental osmosis whilst older brother & sister watched soultrain.
