This song really got me going this a.m. on my ride to work. I have been riding my bike to and from work for the last couple of weeks. What with gas prices hitting...ouch...$3.75 a gallon. And what with global warming and all. Yes, I wear headphones and listen to music...No, I don't wear a helmet. I got priorities man. I heard that this song made the cut on the "Heros" soundtrack. It was used in a sceen where "the cheerleader" was having a sleep... MORE

The New Pornographers recently released this new animated video for the Challengers track "Myriad Harbour." The afro-friendly video was directed by Mark Lomond of the Flourescent Hill directors collective, based in Montreal. "Myriad Harbour"

...if that title doesn't get me some hits I don't know what will... ha... ...and speaking of hits... Canadian supergroup The New Pornographers contains the likes of A.C. (Carl) Newman, Neko Case, Dan Bejar (of Destroyer fame) and more... They make sparkling, intelligent music for people that like some talent to go along with the hooks... I lean heavily towards the Newman / Case side of the NPs... I know that most people around here know about 'em... but there's n... MORE

keep art alive; art by alison casson sleep is often so fleeting. she comes in and kisses my eyelids lightly, pulling me into a watercolor dripping and dizzy sense of a dream. there is always music there, and sometimes i can step my own steps within all of it, wrapping arms around translucent bodies of light, and love. but sleep, she is a transient thing, coming and going with a fevered touch, electric, but so quickly gone. five in the morning, with the darkness still cov... My opinion but Mass Romantic is The New Pornographers best album and this is my favourite song from that album.

I'm one of those who think that the first New Pornographers album was quite good but each subsequent one has been successively worse. But my hat goes off to the band's recent "challenge to the YouTube nation" (their wording) which is part of the promo campaign for their most recent album Challengers. The challenge (see it here) was: "Sing a New Pornographers song in the style of Michael McDonald and video yourself doing it." (Michael McDonald is a white R&B singer who's a... MORE

I saw the NP's on Monday and I have to say that it was one of the best shows I have seen in a long time. I knew Neko was scheduled to be there, but was surprised when Dan Bejar was there as well. I've read many times that he rarely plays with them. He came to Boulder and will come to Denver in November, so I'm contemplating going again. They played mostly stuff from their last two albums, with maybe six songs from their first two. They were tight and rockin'. I ... MORE

I had a blast last Friday in Tucson seeing the New Pornographers. Seems like they played almost everything from Challengers and Twin Cinema. And then a fair amount of songs from Mass Romantic and Electric Version. They played so much it seemed that A.C. Newman seemed to be asking his bandmates what song to do next during the encore. Everything I've read about The New Pornographers says that Dan Bejar never tours with them, but there he was. Maybe just this tour?
Neko Case'... MORE

It may have taken 30 plus years, but I know what I want to do with the rest of my life. I want to be Dan Bejar.
Seriously...he has the best job in rock n roll...stumble onto stage, beer in hand...BEER ALWAYS IN HAND ....sing your song...stumble back off stage. Repeat this maybe 4 times a night...and your work is done.
I would LOVE to be a fly on the wall of a New Pornographers band meeting...
The show was great...but I was totally sidetracked by the ... MORE

What does one bring back from one's travels? Souvenirs, postcards, photographs snapped here and there...
For me, it was none of the above. Like Ulysses, what I retain for safe keeping are the people I met, the voices I heard, the conversations I shared, the transient traces of moving places and a coruscating cloud...
