The first North American single to be taken from The Mars Volta's latest album 'Octahedron' (the European single was Cotopaxi) is Since We've Been Wrong, the intro track from the new LP. The song has been given a rather brilliant video and though it's simply just the band recording in the studio, the song creates a rather eery, almost juxtaposed atmosphere.
Adding to the ever-growing list of bands who release their own material before it's official release date, The Mars Volta's newest record is streaming for free online right now. If you haven't heard Octahedron yet, then click HERE to visit the collectives Myspace where all eight of the tracks are available to listen to in full.

posted by JeremyThe Mars Volta, "Octahedron" (Warner Bros.)I forgot how much I liked The Mars Volta. So I went back and listened to all their material - five studio albums, two extended players and one live album. Omar Rodriguez-Lopez, Cedric Bixler-Zavala are Grammy wining artists who won Best Progressive Rock Band at the 2009 Grammy's. Their new album Octahedron is a bit on the softer side wh...
Journeying out on Saturday was brutal. Unlike the Thursday and Friday, there was barely a cloud in sight and the sun was blazing. So, the first place we headed was the This Tent where folky Elvis Perkins played with his backing band Dearland which was a superb, mellow way to start another extremely long day. He played the popular single "While You Were Sleeping" which was pretty well done. The ...
So I walked into the ballroom at approximately 7:30 with hundreds of tight-pants, fro-do'd Cedric and Omar fanboys with my tie-dye, sandals, and flannel feeling awkwardly at home. The venue is familiar like a face getting off a plane after years of separation; this is the place where I saw one of my first concert "experiences" - two years ago, Guns n' Roses, another story - as I said, awkwardl...

The Mars Volta's new album quietly came out on Tuesday. Quietly in that there doesn't seem to be much buzz here about it, and quietly also in the way the record sounds. A lot of the songs are very subdued compared to other releases of theirs such as The Bedlam in Goliath. It's an album that really takes it time in creating in sonic textures rather than being always crazy and in-your-face. I rea...
