We wrote about the recent news of The Mae Shi splitting into two bands HERE where all but founding brothers Jeff and Tim Byron would leave and create a new band, Signals. After what seemed like an innocent enough parting of ways and a set date for their final show (the Pitchfork Festival last weekend) has now turned into great dissatisfaction from both the Byron brothers.
In a twisting, swapping, slightly confusing turn of events, experimental L. A rockers The Mae Shi will soon split into two different music incarnations. Known for their sporadic line-ups and change of members, the band will play their last show as one at the Pitchfork Festival and from then on out, all but founding member Jeff Byron will leave and move on.
Placing a band such as this just before Texas instrumental rock band 'This Will Destroy You' may have seemed like an odd choice, but the simple fact of the matter was that irregardless of their placement: 'The Mae Shi' were always going to be an oddity.
I was browsing the Mae Shi Blog, when I stumbled upon this lovely video. I don’t know if it’s “official”, but it is pretty tight. Enjoy! The Mae Shi- Lamb And Lion
The Mae Shi dropped "R U Professional" barely 24 hours after Christian Bale's on-set tirade hit the internets. Now it has a quality video celebrating Bale's body of work to go along with it...
I've been itching to see The Mae Shi all year, yet for some reason our schedules never quite worked out the way I had hoped they would. That all changed on Saturday when I finally saw The Mae Shi at the Knit's Old Office. Talk about an experience, jam everyone into that low-ceiling bearing room and throw a punk band in front of them and see what happens. Well The Mae Shi went f-ing nuts up on
This is criminal. There's not even one post on MOG about LA's (and my) favorite art/noise-rock heroes!? Well I can certainly rectify this unfortunate predicament. To be fair, times were not been quiet so well for The Mae Shi in the year of 2006. They had not only hundreds of copies of their album ("Heartbeeps", in all it's 16 minute glory) stolen from their tour van, but hundreds of their hard ...
"Experimental punk"? "Noisy indie"? Whatever. The Mae Shi, hailing from Los Angeles CA, have been making these noises since 2002. A handful of cd's, a dvd, vids, hell - they even invented and marketed their own light-reactive synths. These guys mean business - their way. What's it about? Their t-shirt logo says "I'm Glad You're Alive" and to quote their myspace:"It's about self-improvement and ...
Lions vs. Elephants. Decapitations, face stabbings, limbs lost, and bloodshed. This one will probably leave you scratching your head. It's the new video from LA's The Mae Shi.PigeonsandPlanes

HAH! What a collection of various instruments! The Mae Shi, which is on this picture, remixed Metronomy. Yes yes, it’s been done already 1.00.000 million times, or according to the blog post headline only a 100.Metronomy - Radio Ladio (Mae Shi Remix)
Hopefully I'll be recoverd enough to go see The Mae Shi, Colorstore, and Subvaccum of Nothing at Modified Artss tomorrow. I suggest anyone else in the Phoenix area do the same. That I'm speaking well of a show at my least favorite venue should tell you something. Even if their newest album is not my favorite, The Mae Shi are quite good. Colorstore is one of the best local bands I've seen since a...
