It's far too early in the morning to be blogging. I woke up this AM with no coffee and an empty fridge. Bad start. I know, but right before I officially started to freak out about it - I flipped through my calendar and realized its less than week 'til ...

We were in Chicago for Fork Fest the weekend of MGMT's Pool Party free show at McCarren in Williamsburg, and my phone that Sunday was attacked by nonstop texts about how the Pool had never been more packed, the VIP was full of B-list celebs, and the line to get in was around the block all day. Wait, what? When did they get so big? They're huge. They have models breakdown their equipment after s...

I first learned of The Kooks on my semester abroad in Lancaster, England. I spent six months amongst the British Rock I now love and The Kooks were a part of my daily partying experience. Unfortunately, until now, I only knew two songs. I wasn't sure what to expect from the rest of their music,... [[ This is a content summary only. Top 6 reasons The Kooks/The Morning Benders Shows sold out in NYC?1. The Kooks Are Semi-Demi Gods In Indie Rock in Britain...and US hipsters wanted to partake in the fun2. There's something wildly addictive about The Kooks- in the way The Artic Monkeys were kinda wildly addictive 2 years ago.....Maybe it's the accent, maybe it's the skinny jeans, maybe it's the easy hooks, maybe it's the youthf...
This will Help:Never mind that they played somewhere called "freebutt":http://www.brightonlife.com/venues/index.php?venue_id=135 which actually looks pretty damn cool. When "The Kooks":http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Kooks play maybe you will get lost in their clear, yearning sound. And... if like me you live in a part of this country that will soon lose light and warmth...oh forget it, now I'm...
But I love the Kooks. I think it plays hard into my penchant for Brit rock (not at all the craze currently, but late 80's-early 90's tinny songsmithing complete with unhidden accents and agendas. Think "Parklife" by Blur and you've pretty much tapped into my favorite style of unapologetic apologies for British life. The Kooks don't dive full into that, but they aren't that far away. I picked up...
I put on my Santa Hat today, retreated to my thinking spot and pondered who my favorite new band of 2006 was. Now, I know that in my dotage I am not as adventerous as I once was in trying out new music and I've probably missed some gems, so I'm almost certainly going to slight some deserving band - but I'm going to live with that. So, without further ado, I give you my favorite new band of 2006: _
Photo via MySpaceJust once, it'd be nice to have a V Fest go off without a hitch. Or at least have people talking more about who's on the lineup than who's not. The first year , there was the whole thing with the day two headliner Massive Attack having to cancel on account of visa issues, so Broken Social Scene was hastily called in to cover and while they put on a memorable show - how ofte...

The Kooks released their latest album, "Konk," on April 11th. It sounds pretty much the same as their previous one, but with a bit more "pop" to it. I don't know what it is, but there is something about British pop that tickles my fancy. Here is the video for their single, "Always Where I Need To Be."
