The latest turn in the matter:
YouTube, Viacom agree to mask viewer data

In a nod to privacy complaints, Viacom Inc. won't be told the identities of individuals who watch video clips on the popular video-sharing site YouTube.

Viacom and other copyright holders have agreed to let YouTube mask user IDs and Internet addresses when Google Inc.'s online video site hands over viewership records in a $1 billion lawsuit accusing YouTube of enabling copyright infringement. A federal

Two different of one Kinks song...

Artist:
Album:

Other Tags: concept album. television drama, studio, live, Wolfgang's Vault
The difference between the original studio track and live versions in performance can be interesting.  Case in point: Some years back (1969), Ray Davies was working on a television concept - a recounting of the British working-class experience from the beginning of the Twentieth Century up to the 1960's, in the form of a narrative of the life of one Arthur, whose family were all gathered together one last time as his son prepared to emigrate to Australia. The television ... MORE

MOG, is it?

(13)
Hello Moggers, I have never posted on here before, and despite having had MOG in my bookmarks for ages, have only just gotten round to joining, right in the middle of my exams - perfect! Anyway, what to talk about? I suppose it should be music, since that's why we're here, right? I am currently thinking of making a (for want of a better term) 'Man Mix' of several songs whose titles end in 'Man'... So far, I am gonna attempt to mix Soul Man (Sam & Dave) with Method Man ... Blog post image preview Written 42 odd years ago and in today's tough economic times, it still resonates Face to Face is an album released by The Kinks in 1966 on Reprise Records in the United States and Pye Records in the United Kingdom. A major artistic breakthrough for Kinks' songwriter Ray Davies, the LP represents the first full flowering of Davies' use of narrative, observation, and wry social commentary in his songs. It heralded The Kinks' move away from the hard-driving rock and roll st... MORE

The Kinks - The Kinks are the Village Green Preservation Society

(5)
Blog post image preview Change is hard, and gets harder all the time. Change ebbs and flows around you, and you constantly have to ebb and flow along with it, or drop out and encapsulate yourself against the outside world. Much pop music made mourns love lost, but not a world lost, and innocence lost that is never to be recaptured. The 60s especially embraced a world full of life and change, and a dropping out of old patterns in favor of the new and novel. To make an album about a slower, old... MORE

The Kink

Among the giants of the British Invasion, there was perhaps none more British than Ray Davies, the leader of the Kinks.
The band, in its heyday, didn’t even come to the United States; a four-year touring ban, following a dispute in 1965 with promoters and management, helped insure that Davies’s songbook, esteemed as it is, would retain a recondite streak—and that Davies might be most enduringly imagined hiding out in Muswell Hill, composing ro

This post began as a comment responding to a comment:
RGM of DeadManS OrcheStra says:
Dig that drumming in the beginnig of that first vid!
According to Ray, when the Kinks went into the studio to record You Really Got Me, it was decided (by who precisely, i forget) that Mick Avory wasn't a good enough drummer to record, so there was a studio durmmer, who apparently wasn't really ready for what was going to happen.
As they rehearsed and worked out arrangements, he came up with... MORE

I just paid $40 for 10.3 gallons of gas

Blog post image preview Translated into British that's: £20 for 39 litres of petrol which after further investigation I found this at TimesOnline.com "The Automobile Association said that petrol prices had hit a national average of £1.098 a litre yesterday, equivalent to £4.99 a gallon.Petrol is expected to pass the £5-a-gallon mark this week." Since £1 Sterling is basically equal to $2 'merikan I guess I should just stop complaining and thank God and George W. Bush for the oils we are receiv... MORE

MPAA Chief Concedes: Pirates Also Go To The Movies

The head of the Motion Picture Association of America, an organization that some Internet users have accused of using legal strongarm tactics to prevent them from downloading recent movies from the Web, has acknowledged that the downloaders go to movie theaters in far greater numbers than others.
Speaking to the National Press Club in Washington on Monday, Glickman suggested that his organization is attempting to come up wit

Court Ruling Could End P2P Music-Download Lawsuits

A federal court has dealt a body blow to the recording industry's efforts to sue people who use peer-to-peer software to download music from the Internet. In fact, says one copyright lawyer, the P2P decision could mean the end of the Recording Industry Association of America's litigation strategy. In Atlantic Records v. Howell, U.S. District Court Judge Neil V. Wake rejected the RIAA's theory that the defendants distributed

The Kinks because it was a sunny afternoon

(13)
Blog post image preview The wik: "Sunny Afternoon" is a song by The Kinks, written by chief songwriter Ray Davies [1]. The track later featured on the Face to Face album, with a run time of 3:36. Its strong Music Hall flavour and lyrical focus was a stylistic departure for the band, who had risen to fame in 1964-65 with a series of hard-driving, power-chord rock hits. Ray Davies' songwriting interests for the next 3-4 years would remain broadly in the vein of this song, a period which most crit... MORE
